Beatnik Empire

Formed in Brisbane in 2015, Beatnik Empire began as a passion project for Matt Collingwood (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Pete Boase (bass). The addition of Wayne Smith (guitar) and Richard Savage (drums) has propelled the band to new heights, with one fan at a recent warm-up gig describing the new line-up as “adding a jet engine.”

While it’s been compared to Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Beatnik Empire’s sound defies simple categorization. Their music captures the essence of ’90s Britpop but is imbued with a moody edge reminiscent of The Smiths, The Church or early U2, reflecting Wayne’s influences.

With Richard and Pete laying down a rock-solid rhythm, Wayne’s intricate guitar work, and Matt’s evocative storytelling, Beatnik Empire crafts songs that speak of love, hope, loss, and the pursuit of dreams. Their music as powerful in the live arena as it in the studio recordings featured on the major streaming platforms. Check it out and add it to your favourites.
