Embark Center for Self-Directed Education

Embark Center is a self-directed education community in Leesburg, VA for kids and teens ages 9-18 who want an alternative to traditional school. We support self-directed learning, unschooling, democratic education, and learner-led pathways that encourage young people to pursue their interests, passions, and real-world goals in a supportive community environment.

At Embark Center, students and mentors practice restorative approaches, nonviolent communication, and collaborative decision-making. Students build autonomy, confidence, collaboration skills, and intrinsic motivation through meaningful experiences rather than standardized curriculum, grades, or coercive learning models.
