Vates News http://vatesnews.blogspot.com/
The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel written by the English academic and philologist J. R. R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's earlier work, The Hobbit, but developed into a much larger story. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, with much of it being created during World War II. Although intended as a single-volume work, it was originally published in three volumes in 1954 and 1955, and it is in this three-volume form that it is popularly known. It has since been reprinted numerous times and translated into many different languages, becoming one of the most popular works in 20th-century literature.
The story of the The Lord of the Rings takes place in an alternate pre-history, the Third Age of Middle-earth. The lands of Middle-earth are populated by Men (humans) and other humanoid races (Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs), as well as many other real and fantastical creatures. The story centres on the Ring of Power made by the Dark Lord Sauron, and from quiet beginnings in the Shire ranges across Middle-earth following the course of the War of the Ring through the eyes of its characters, most notably the central protagonist Frodo Baggins. The main story is followed in the book by six appendices that provide a wealth of historical and linguistic background material.
Along with Tolkien's other writings, The Lord of the Rings has been subjected to extensive analysis of its literary themes and origins. Although a major work in itself, the story is only the last movement of a mythology that Tolkien had worked on since 1917. Influences on this earlier work, and on the story of The Lord of the Rings, include philology, mythology, industrialization, and religion, as well as earlier fantasy works and Tolkien's experiences in World War I. The Lord of the Rings in its turn is considered to have had a great effect on modern fantasy, and the impact of Tolkien's works is such that the use of the words "Tolkienian" and "Tolkienesque" have been recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary.
The immense and enduring popularity of The Lord of the Rings has led to numerous references in popular culture, the founding of many societies by fans of Tolkien's works, and the publication of many books about Tolkien and his works. The Lord of the Rings has inspired, and continues to inspire, artwork, music, films and television, video games, and subsequent literature. Adaptations of The Lord of the Rings have been made for radio, theatre, and film. The 2001--2003 release of the widely acclaimed Lord of the Rings film trilogy prompted a new surge of interest in The Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's other works.
The Lord of the Rings film trilogy comprises three live action fantasy epic films: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) (often abbreviated to 'LotR', 'FotR', 'TTT' and 'RotK'). The trilogy is based on the book The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, and while it follows the book's general storyline it also features some additions to and deviations from the source material.

Excalibur or Caliburn is the legendary sword
Vates News http://vatesnews.blogspot.com/
Excalibur or Caliburn is the legendary sword of King Arthur, sometimes attributed with magical powers or associated with the rightful sovereignty of Great Britain. Sometimes Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone (the proof of Arthur's lineage) are said to be the same weapon, but in most versions they are considered separate. The sword was associated with the Arthurian legend very early. In Welsh, the sword is called Caledfwlch.
Cast and crew (movie, 1981) Nigel Terry ... King Arthur: Even though he was 35 years old, Nigel Terry plays King Arthur from his teenage years to his ending as an aged monarch. Helen Mirren ... Arthur's half-sister and sorceress Morgana Nicol Williamson ... Merlin) Nicholas Clay ... Lancelot Cherie Lunghi ... Guenevere The film also features some noted actors in early screen roles:
Liam Neeson ... Gawain, Patrick Stewart ... King Leondegrance, Clive Swift ... Sir Ector, Gabriel Byrne ... Uther Pendragon. Several members of the Boorman family also appeared in the picture. Igrayne (Arthur's mother), the Lady of the Lake, Mordred as a boy, and the infant Arthur were all played by Boorman's children. Because of the number of Boormans involved with the film, it is sometimes called "The Boorman Family Project."
All the elements of Sir Thomas Malory's classic "Le Morte Darthur" are here: Arthur (Nigel Terry) removing the sword Excalibur from the stone; the Round Table's noble birth and tragic decline; the heroic attempts to recover the Holy Grail; and the shifting balance of power between wily wizard Merlin (Nicol Williamson) and evil sorceress Morgana (Helen Mirren).

Anita Meyer - Why Tell Me Why

When I was young I felt the need of learning, learning Love I was told kept the wheel on turning, turning Still I'm trying to find, peace of mine inside For once in your life you feel the urge of knowing, knowing and wondering Why
Come on people, better use our sense, our time is running out there ain't no doubt about We can make it, try to rearrange it if there's a price we got to toss the dice
Oooh, won't you tell me what's right Ooh Yeah, won't you tell me what's wrong Ooh won't you tell me what's right. Somebody tell me now Believe in Destiny, Believe in Humanity, Believe in we'll meet again
Somehow, Somewhere, Someday.
Why tell me, Why, tell me why, tell me why do I pray I need to know right now oooh. Why tell me, Why, tell me why, tell me why do I pray I hope that freedom soon will come our way Why tell me, Why
Come on people, lent a helpin' hand, no need to fuss and fight we all know where we stand Help me make it, try to rearrange it Name your price and I will toss the dice

Vates News http://vatesnews.blogspot.com/
Apocalypse Now is a 1979 Academy Award, Cannes Palme d'Or and Golden Globe winning American film set during the Vietnam War. It tells the story of Army Captain Benjamin L. Willard who is sent into the jungle to assassinate United States Army Special Forces Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, who is said to have gone insane. The film has been viewed as a journey into the darkness of the human psyche.
The film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola from a script by Coppola, John Milius and Michael Herr, and was in large part based on Joseph Conrad's novella Heart of Darkness (1899), as well as drawing elements from Herr's "Dispatches" (1977), and from Werner Herzog's Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972); Coppola himself has noted, "Aguirre, with its incredible imagery, was a very strong influence. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention it."
The film stars Martin Sheen as Captain Benjamin L. Willard (based on Marlow in Conrad's novella), Marlon Brando as Colonel Kurtz, Dennis Hopper as a photojournalist, and Robert Duvall in an Oscar-nominated turn as the wild Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore. The movie became notorious in the entertainment press due to its lengthy and troubled production. In the end, Coppola had to finance the film with his own money.
This is the end Beautiful friend This is the end My only friend, the end

Nietzsche: Last Days
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (October 15, 1844 -- August 25, 1900) (IPA: [ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈvilhelm ˈniːtʃə]), was a nineteenth-century German philosopher. He wrote critiques of religion, morality, contemporary culture, philosophy, and science, using a distinctive style and displaying a fondness for aphorism. Nietzsche's influence remains substantial within and beyond philosophy, notably in existentialism and postmodernism. His style, and radical questioning of the value and objectivity of truth, raise considerable problems of interpretation, generating an extensive secondary literature in both continental and analytic philosophy. Nonetheless, his key ideas include interpreting tragedy as an affirmation of life, an eternal recurrence that has fallen into numerous interpretations, and a reversal of Platonism.
Nietzsche began his career as a philologist before turning to philosophy. At the age of 24 he became Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Basel, but resigned in 1879 due to health problems, which would plague him for most of his life. In 1889 he exhibited symptoms of a serious mental illness, living out his remaining years in the care of his mother and sister until his death in 1900.

Vates News http://vatesnews.blogspot.com/
Cría cuervos is 1976 Spanish film directed by Carlos Saura. It was released as Cría! in the United States and as Raise Crows (a literal translation of the title) in the UK.
The film tells the story of Ana, a young girl in a family of three children, growing up under the Franco regime. Ana (played by Ana Torrent) is a young girl who witnesses many horrific things in her life. Her mother (played by Geraldine Chaplin) is cheated on by her husband and dies of a painful illness before the film begins. The father (played by Hector Alterio) is a philandering general in Franco's army, who dies while sleeping with his mistress. After his death, their mother's sister, Paulina, played by Monica Randall, moves into the children's home along with their grandmother and tries to be a good guardian while continuing her own life as well.
Much of the film takes place in flashbacks and in scenes of Ana's imagination, mostly of her mother.
The title, "Cría cuervos" comes from the spanish proverb, "Cría cuervos y te arrancarán los ojos." This translates as, "If you raise crows, they will peck out your eyes," and is generally used for someone who has bad luck in raising children, or raised them badly. It may also imply that every bad act will return to haunt you.
Song: ¿Por qué te vas? by Jeanette Dimech

Ana Torrent plays the lead character, Ana. She was already well known thanks to her starring role in the film El espíritu de la colmena (The Spirit of the Beehive) (1973) by Víctor Erice, made when she was five years old. She followed Cría cuervos by yet another memorable role in The Nest (1980) in which she played a thirteen year old in a relationship with an aging widower played by Héctor Alterio who here has the role of Anselmo, Ana's father.
Geraldine Chaplin plays dual roles: Ana's mother in which she speaks Spanish with accented English and Ana's as a young woman in which she is dubbed by actress Julieta Serrano . Chaplin was director Saura's common-law wife and muse at that time. She appeared in ten of his films.
