WHYnotnews is an independent news organization consisting of multimedia that includes video, radio, print, podcast, online and portable (CD and DVD) distribution of content that is primarily generated in the United States with international and multinational components. WHYnotnews provides platforms for universal human rights and justice. Universal peace and the pursuit of peace are paramount to the focus of our reporting. A significant amount of our time and resources are dedicated to covering organizations, constituencies, policies, legislation, litigation and other activities that are involved in the process of establishing, implementing and maintaining peace throughout the world. With the recent outbreaks of warfare and the continuing occupations in the Middle East, WHYnotnews has devoted most of our attention to the clash of interests within Washington, DC between those who engage in and those who oppose military aggression.

There are many casualties of war beyond those immediately maimed and killed. The ongoing consequences of warfare reach far into the future beyond the duration of the conflict. This can be seen in the social, economic, infrastructural and personal ramifications that can persist for decades after active hostilities end. WHYnotnews is interested in exploring the root causes of warfare, the systematic dehumanizing requirements that must obtain in order to conduct warfare, the vehicles for establishing dehumanization among participating combatants, and ways and means of diffusing all of these things. It is particularly important for the recognition, celebration and honoring of the diversity and richness cultures world wide that WHYnotnews seeks to travel to the Middle East, South America, Southeast Asia, Africa and other at risk parts of the world. In immersing our reporters in the cultures of countries around the world, WHYnotnews will experience and capture the wonder and fullness of people in wide varieties of expression and will be able to share this experience with the rest of the world so that the fundamental universality of the human condition can be immediately recognized, appreciated, celebrated—and most importantly—protected, indeed, sanctified.

In the period of post 2nd World War history journalism around the world has primarily and predominantly been state sponsored. This was true in the Western press as much as in the Soviet Bloc and Sino-Indian media, with all regions of the world exhibiting ethnocentric biases. With the advent of globalization and the concentration of media ownership into a miniscule number of principal ownership over more and more media outlets, the diversity of the messages conveyed worldwide has been narrowing to reflect the narrow interests of that ownership. The results have been devastating to the free flow of information among and between the common people, and crippling to the healthy development and nurturing of Democracy, with only the interests of the very elite ranks of global society represented in the media and the interests of the masses—the vast majority of the earth's constituency—getting little representation and much manipulation. We need look no further than the manipulation of the message in the lead up to the Western attack on the Middle East and the universal distribution of disinformation on weapons of mass destruction, the erroneous charges of a link between Iraq and the 911 attacks and the careful control of information about the use of torture and other criminal tactics in the occupations to see the shocking consequences of media consolidation and its collusion with governmental policy.

Fortunately, with the advent of the internet, information is no longer exclusively confined to those wealthy enough to consolidate media ownership, it is within reach of the masses. This makes it much more difficult for governments to hide their misdeeds and much easier for the masses to share information and build consensus and community. WHYnotnews endeavors to embrace the many faces of humanity and to open our resources to the conveyance of messages that strengthen our world-wide bonds rather than consolidate a disproportionate amount of power in a small minority of elite interests of dubious merit. By establishing grassroots, authentic, world wide bureaus of localized reporters—ambassadors for peace really—WHYnotnews has begun a human diplomatic mission that will grow as our organization grows and will help to establish a global, grassroots, sustainable community of like-minded individuals and groups who hold the sanctity of human life as a defining principle that may be used to unite humanity in the pursuit of universal peace and justice for all of mankind.
