This video clip presents one of Gato Barbieri“s most dynamic and versatile bands: Frank Colon/percussion, Mario Rodriguez/bass, Robbie Gonzalez/drums, and Marc Soskin/piano. For this performance, Gato decided, on the spur of the moment, to perform "Bolivia", a song which the keyboardist had never played and which the other members had never performed in this band configuration! The song structure was lightly discussed before playing what was supposed to be the camera-angle sound-check. Once done, Gato announced that this was, in fact, the final take, packed up his sax and went home.

At the time of this recording, the personnel of pianist Michael Wolff's "Impure Thoughts" band had been playing and touring together for two years. The band roster included Alex Foster/sax, John B. Williams/bass, Frank Colon/percussion, Victor Jones/drums, and Badal Roy/tablas. This clip of the song, "Mama Tell Me", has a Caribbean island groove and features piano and percussion solos. Throughout this clip, Michael shows why he is considered a master at coaxing a myriad of emotions from the acoustic piano. At times, he attacks the keyboard percussively, at other times lyrically, channeling the music according to his mood at the moment. On this song, John, Victor and Badal "hold the fort" maintaining the groove, while the song ends with Frank Colon displaying his signature melodic cuica during his solo!
