Gillian Nicola

The first thing that strikes listeners about Hamilton’s (ON) Gillian Nicola is the strength of her vocals. This rising singer/songwriter calls on influences of folk, rock and alt-country, but it is her vocal delivery and heavy instrumentation that sets Nicola apart from the rest. In spring 2016, Nicola will release her sophomore EP, "No Place to Call". The EP was produced by Dan Hosh (Whitehorse, City & Colour, Rose Cousins) and mastered by Elliott Brood’s Stephen Pitkin. On a base level, the songs are what many have come to know and love from Canadian folk music, but the vocal delivery, heavy instrumentation and the contrast between dark and light sounds set Nicola apart from the rest. A classically trained vocalist from a young age, Nicola’s love of music began as a child. Nicola’s 2013 EP "Chasing the Wind", was nominated for two Hamilton Music Awards and the Toronto Independent Music Awards.
