KPFA Radio,
Name: KPFA
Age: 59
Founded in 1949 by Lewis Hill, a pacifist, poet, and journalist, KPFA was the first community supported radio station in the USA. KPFA broadcasts on 94.1 FM and KPFB 89.3 FM, Berkeley, and KFCF 88.1 FM, Fresno, California. Our signal reaches one third of the state, utilizing 59,000 watts.

Much of our programming is local, original and eclectic, with a well produced mix of news and in depth public affairs, an ongoing drama, literature and performance series, interviews, and reviews. Our music ranges from folk to hip hop, Bach to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. We travel the region to broadcast live music, demonstrations, and cultural events. The majority of our staff are unpaid community volunteers donating their time and energy to bring you our programming.

For a liberal radio station you're pretty good at holding information hostage. $100? DVD? Copyright complaints? Just another thug in today's information age.

KALW'S (91.7FM; kalw.org) Your Call Radio program (yourcallradio.org), M-F 10-11am, represents the best in progressive 1-hour interview call-in programs -- the best in the Bay Area -- that KPFA used to have long ago. And Your Call is not slanted to the Democrat party -- not a Democrat party organ. Also, there's KALW's City Visions call-in show, Mon 7-8pm, which gets right down to local grassroots concerns. Although I could do without most of KALW's NPR garbage, but other shows more than make up for that. Now KPFA's only 1-hour (actually 2-hours!) interview call-in program is from that apparently politically near brain-dead new host they have on Sunday morning who I hear is even worse than (tho hopefully not as egotistical & rude as) Lord Larry Bensky was. I don't know for sure because I only listened to the new Sunday morning host once and that was enough vacuousness for me.

I am already a member, and have pledged many times. I would appreciate if if the full debate was posted as well. Folks, if you want just the audio, the archived cd should be available on the KPFA website, and at a significantly lower cost($15).

WHERE IS THE OTE VIDEO???
dmorton06| June 14, 2007
I fully appreciate that KPFA is "listener-supported". But you're asking for $100 for the Hitchens-Hedges debate DVD. That's a lot of money, especially to someone who doesn't live in Berkeley or listen to KPFA.

Why not release the content, give access to millions of people the world over, and elevate the level of public discourse? If I were still living in Berkeley and/or had money to donate, I would probably feel more compelled to give money to a station that's doing something profoundly good for society...certainly more than I would for a station that's generating interesting content but keeping it veiled from the public in order to make a buck.

Please release the full thing, even if it's at low quality. It won't devalue the DVD gift. If anything, it will increase demand for it.

I too would very much appreciate it if you could find the whole debate with both sides. Thanks.
