The Player Piano Group has the reminiscences of the roll session recording engineer from the 1920s. Ravel played some of his own compositions but certain pieces were performed by Robert Casadesus with Ravel sat at the end of the keyboard giving directions as to style. CD liner notes and Wikipedia don't aim to be authoratative. The Casadesus / Ravel piano roll connection interplay is well documented these days.

I agree with autopiano : it's no use pontificating about "obvious errors" in the original roll - the big-head self-styled authorities might all be wrong. There's nothing to indicate they are right like a period 78 recording. There are a couple of Luckey Roberts pieces from the same era that also have additional bars inserted giving an unconventional number and sound to the section. Not every piece has rigid 16-bar sections - the "authorities" clearly don't grasp or accept that.
