Since 1957, the San Francisco Film Society has been enriching the lives of Bay Area residents through the presentation of the best film and media from all over the globe.
As we enter our second half-century, the Film Society has significantly expanded its offerings, presenting year-round programming in four core areas: embracing internationalism; educating Bay Area youth; exploring digital technology; and celebrating Bay Area film and media culture.
As part of our revitalized focus on Bay Area film and media, the Film Society has launched a slate of filmmaker services programs designed to designed to foster the creativity and further the careers of independent filmmakers. The celebration of the transformative power of the moving image is at the very heart of everything the Film Society does.

We're best known for presenting the San Francisco International Film Festival, which for 15 days each year brings progressive and discerning film audiences together with the best films and filmmakers in the world. Turning 52 this year, the San Francisco International Film Festival will run April 23 - May 7, 2009.
We also present the San Francisco International Animation Festival and New Italian Cinema, which show the latest and greatest from the animated world and Italy, respectively. This year, we are incorporating French Cinema Now and Quebec Film Week into our celebration of international cinema this fall. And there's more! :) We haven't even covered the slate of programs under the Film Society's SF360 banner, which includes the daily online Bay Area film & media magazine sf360.org and the social screening series SF360 Film+Club.
The Film Society has launched its full suite of filmmaker services after signing an agreement with Film Arts Foundation, effectively assuming the stewardship of activities provided by Film Arts over its 32-year history. Our filmmaker services include programs in the areas of professional education, career development, membership services, fiscal sponsorship, grantmaking and information resources.
