Samsung Has "Full HD" Camera with Flash Memory -- Shipping in May for $899
In a neighboring Chelsea art gallery last week, Samsung had a little show for some of its newest digital devices. David took our non-HD Panasonic over for this report.
He got a demonstration of the not yet released Samsung HMX20, a small and powerful camcorder with an 8GB internal Flash memory drive and a slot for more. The camera can shoot in full HD for 90 minutes.
By full HD, this means the camera shoots in 1080p in 30 or 60 frames per second. Samsung's first Flash memory camcorder shoots in 720p.
Camcorders with Flash memory use less battery life. I am told that the camera can shoot for 90 minutes on one charge. It also has 4 megapixel digital camera which interpolates up to 8 megapixel images.
The new camcorder, which was announced at CES in January, will ship in May and it has suggested retail price of $899, we have learned. We have the first video demo of camera right here on the purple channel.
Nor sure if this is the best HD camera for the price, and we are not gear experts at Beet.TV, but it sure looks like the shift to HD is becoming inevitable and affordable for many of us in content creating world.
David also saw an impressive LCD monitor that allows users to access RSS feeds through a remote.

Here is a beautiful song by one of South Korea's most renowned traditional singers, the gorgeous Kim Young-im. This song is a South Korean local version of the song Arirang, probably the most famous and popular Korean folk song with many versions (this one has been sung in Jeongseon County for more than 600 years). Arirang is an ancient native Korean word with no direct modern meaning. "Ari" means "beautiful", "Rang" can mean "dear". Because of those words, Arirang could be interpreted to mean "beautiful dear". Arirang is a mountain in Korea. The song performed here comes from the beautiful Korean film "Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul geurigo bom" ("Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring") from 2004. Listen to the incredibly powerful voice of Kim Young-im and enjoy the beauty of Korean music and culture!

Kayagum is a 12-string half-tube plucked zither with movable bridges (Kaya=an ancient Korean kingdom; gum/kum=string instrument). Today it is one of the most popular Korean instruments. It features in much court music, notably in Yongsan Hoesang, and in two folk genres---Sanjo ("scattered melodies") and Kayagum Byongchang (a song accompanied by the instrument). It also commonly plays in many accompanying ensembles. Eckardt and some Korean scholars state that the early name for the zither was Ko, hence the alternative name Kayago, although Kum appears to have been the normal appellation in source.

Sungnyemun (Korean: 숭례문; Hanja(Chinese character): 崇禮門; means "Gate of Respecting Propriet
Sungnyemun (Korean: 숭례문; Hanja(Chinese character): 崇禮門; means "Gate of Respecting Propriety") or Namdaemun(Korean; 남대문, means "The Great South Gate") is a gate of Seoul City Walls located in the heart of Seoul This gate was regarded as one of the most iconic Korean landmarks.
Until February 10th, Sungnyemun had been the oldest wood-built structure remaining in Seoul. The construction of this gate began in 1395 during the fourth year of the reign of King Taejo of Joseon and was finished in 1398. The gate had been off-limits to the public since Japanese colonial authorities built an electric tramway nearby in 1907. The gate was repaired in the early 1960s, and again in 2005, when the Seoul City Government decided to open the gate to the Public. The Gate was entitled 'Korean National Treasure No. 1' in 1962.
On February 11, 2008, Around 8:50 p.m. in Korean Standard Time (1150 UTC) on Sunday, however, a fire broke out at Sungnyemun. Approximately 30 firetrucks and 90 firefighters were sent to the site and were able to bring the initial blaze under control around 10:30 pm.
However around 10:40 p.m. the fire rekindled at the second floor of the gate, as firefighters were in the process of extinguishing embers. At around 11:00 p.m. the fire had spread over to the roof of the gate. The Korean Fire Department reports that the second blaze had started as the Department was seeking permission from the Korean Cultural Heritage Administration to dismantle parts of the gate in order to stop any possible further fires from spreading.
At about 12:40 a.m. of the 11th, the second floor had collapsed, and at 1:30 a.m. the fire had spread to the first floor.
As the interiors of the Gate is off-limits to civilians, the Korean Fire Department initially eliminated the possibility of arson, and stated that an electric leakage from the night-time lights could have been the possible cause.
This possibility was eliminated as a firefighter reported upon examination that there was no electric wiring on the second floor.
A taxi driver, identified by his surname Lee, has reported seeing a man in his fifties, climb up the staircase carrying a shopping bag, and Lee had alerted authorities after seeing sparks like fireworks inside the gate. Lee also added that he had attempted to follow the man but had lost him.
On February 12th, A 69-year-old man identified only by his family name, Chae, was arrested on suspicion of arson and then later confessed to the crime. A police captain reported that Mr. Chae sprayed paint thinner on the floor of the structure and then set fire to it. Police say that Mr. Chae was upset about not being paid in full for land he had sold to developers. He had been charged with setting a fire at Changgyeong Palace in Seoul in 2006.
The Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea said it would take at least three years to fully rebulit the gate and it would cost some $21 million.
