Well, if you watch episode R2 it explains it all. Basically Emperor Charles and Marianne (Lelouch's mother)...yes she is alive have been planning to use CC and VV to activate this system known as the Raganok Junction, which will basically merge every humans mind together. Now the Raganok Junction is basically a huge machine and made of humanity's inner mind, which manifests as a huge orb resembling Jupiter. Also, near the end of that episode Lelouch uses Geass on it and stops Charles and Marianne's plans and the World of C (thats what the thing that looks like Jupiter is called) absorbs Charles and Marianne.
