Hometown: Cardiff
Country: United Kingdom
Occupation: Camera operator and Director
Companies: Freelance
Interests and Hobbies: I began making films in 2001. My first camera was a small intimate palm size piece of equipment that fitted into my pocket (a Sony pc83). Initially, I made no attempt to film spectacular or foreign events but I focused instead on the ordinary aspects of my life. I filmed a little bit everyday. The films were about preserving those little things that I found interesting in my life. It was all pretty close to home; I wasn't interested so much in the audience or the end product I was just filming my life and the things that interested me. My films sat on the shelf in my bedroom with no audience. At the time, I was isolated, but I now realize that I was part of a group of people who, like me, were keen to express themselves with the new technology but had no real way of making themselves heard. As I matured as a filmmaker, I became more and more fascinated by the images and sounds I had heard from all round the world in documentary films. The films of Chris Marker (Sunless), and Ron Frieke (Bakara) inspired me to think globally. At the same time, my network of friends was widening. I started to meet more people from different cultural backgrounds. These international influences began to show in my camera work. I made a trips to the Gambia, France and Norway to make films. So, my view of the world through the camera was starting to shift. When, I began as a cameraman I used to take the camera with me on my normal path of everyday life but now the camera was taking me around. Having developed a taste for global film making, I began to look for more opportunities for linking up with people from around the world. I noted that other filmmakers were starting to use the Internet as a means for distribution and I was keen to find out how this worked. When I investigated further I realised that the Internet was more than a means for distribution, it was a tool for global exchange. For example, I could upload my work on to sites such as YouTube and receive responses from people across the globe. The Internet is a means of expression and response, a feedback loop.

I've literally just found your channel, but I have had enough time to wtahc a handfull of your videos. I think that your videos are very purposefull and they have really strong identities (if you know what I mean). they're definatley something different - and a vey refreshing thing to find on YouTube, I will as, seeing as a vast percentage of YouTubers are either moaners to use Vlogging as their primary emotional oufit, or they are silent YouTubers who comment, rate and write, but dont mak any videos.

Sorry to go on (and on and on)...

Keep up with the awesome videos!
