Upstart Magazine - the voice of kiwi kids

Upstart Magazine is the only New Zealand produced and nationally distributed magazine for boys and girls aged 12 and under. 

We distribute 30,000 copies and reach an estimated audience of 150,000 children per edition.  

Our mission is to provide all children in Aotearoa, New Zealand, the opportunity to freely share their thoughts and opinions; to have them published, read – and respected – thereby contributing to their sense of self-worth and identity. 

To help children shape the media’s portrayal – and public perception – of children and young people growing up in Aotearoa. 

To treat children with respect and integrity. To provide inspiration and encouragement for them to participate fully in their communities – both locally and globally.
