De roots van Groningen komen aan bod in Grunroots. Muziek uit verre streken, maar dan van om de hoek. Een smakelijke verbinding van wereldmuziek en jazz door de Turkse multi-instrumentalist en zanger Behsat Uvez, de Roemeense saxofonist Alex Simu, Hollander Bert van Erk op contrabas en de Senegalese percussionist Mousse Pathe M'Baye. Grunroots komt voort uit een avond in het Groninger Grand Theatre, alweer bijna drie jaar geleden, waar udspeler Haytham Safia ook aan deelnam, maar die speelt al met zijn eigen kwartet in Adorp.
