19th Century Lovebirds 3 Videos
A studious admirer of the many superb adaptations which have been made over the years of the classics of 19th century literature, I have nonetheless found myself on more than one occasion wishing, like some forsaken Oliver, for "some more".
It is simply that the performances the ladies provide as evening entertainment are so delightful, so enchanting, that I wish in some way these all-too-brief moments could be extended, perhaps indefinitely. They always seem to be served up to move the plot forward—which in itself I suppose is admirable—but at times I just wish everyone would give it a rest and let the ladies perform. Why must we cut away to the next scene? Couldn't we be treated to an encore? At the very least might we be honored with a second verse? Give me a mini-series where, episode after episode, we are first presented, as prelude, scenes of scintillating conversation at candlelit dinners. Thus satiated, we then retire 'round the pianoforte while the maidens who are soon-to-be-lost-to-us-because-they-invariably-marry-young delight us with modest displays of their virginal voices, not to mention other charms which I am far too polite to admit to admiring! This playlist is comprised of just such moments from various productions. If you find yourself compelled to play these in an endless loop, rest easy in the knowledge that you are not alone—and that your secret's safe with me. |

Akage no An 111 Videos
The 1979 anime of "Anne of Green Gables", with episodes uploaded by others and myself. I consider this the best adaptation, hands-down--although I love them all.
The first 15 episodes are graced with the storyboarding genius of Hayao Miyazaki, who added a unique emotional dimension to the adaptation. Later episodes are also beautifully done but some of the Miyazaki magic is missing. Directed by Isao Takahata for The Nippon Animation Co. Ltd. |
