Someone higher up the food chain saw a plethora of M113s around our FOB one day and decided they should be put to good use by the infantry platoons. Despite a lack of spare parts, vehicle cages to protect them from RPG shots, armor, gun shields and other insignifcant little things Charlie Company 1-161 1st Platoon rolled on my patrols in M113s. Then on October 1st, 2004 one of the vehicles - certified as ready for duty - had a major malfunction as you'll see in this video. Dedicated to SGT "Skip" Roush whose combat tour was cut short due to a mishap involving that 'ready for duty' M113.

Unfortunately, their patrol area was 10 kilometers south of town, which meant contending with everything from IEDs and Baghdad rush hour to kids selling bananas and gas station queues each time they went out on a mission.
