Andrea Giani Vocals
Andrea Giani was born in Cologne. She studied Piano and Voice in her native city and at the »Richard Strauss Conservatory« in Munich, where she is now based and teaches singing for acting students at the »Bayerische Theatre Academy August Everding«. Her repertoire extends from jazz standards to French and German chansons and on to Yiddish and Jewish songs, which -- with her versatile and expressive dark voice -- she sings with a lot of heart and soul: »viel Herz und Gefiehl«.
Joe Rappaport
violin
Joe Rappaport was born in London, he studied violin and chamber music at the Royal Academy of Music and the Vienna Conservatoire. As a founder-member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, he has played under conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Georg Solti, Carlo Maria Giulini and Lorin Maazel. His Jewish heritage and experience working with Musicians from other musical backgrounds, flow together to shape and inform his arrangements and compositions for »Gefilte Fish«.
Tobias Schwartz
Upright Bass
Tobias Schwartz studied from 1990 to 1992 e-bass at the BSM (Jazz School) in Munich. He went on to study arrangement and composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston/USA. There he extended his musical skills on the upright bass. He has been working as a studio-musician for many years in Southern Germany and has played in well-known bands like »Escape with Romeo« touring Germany, Spain and the UK.
Roman Chowdhury
Guitar
Roman J. Chowdhury studied composition and arrangement at the Berklee College of Music in Boston/USA on an achievement scholarship. He has performed and recorded with various nationally renowned jazz, pop and world music artists and formations, like Ranajit Sengupta, Gefilte Fish and the legendary »Weather Girls«. Roman's first solo album will be released in winter 2006/2007. »You and Me« is a culmination of a multi-facetted body of experience, an autobiographical reflection of Roman's identity as a person of colour (his mother being German and his father Bengali), a contemplation of his experience, personal and political.
Angeliki Koufou
Accordion
Angeliki Koufou was born in Rhodes and studied the Accordion in Athens. She furthered her musical studies at the University of Corfu, Greece. Her music studies continued on a one year scholarship in Dresden and later in Munich, where she completed her studies at the Richard-Strauss Conservatory. During this time she had the opportunity to play with many interesting musicians from all over Europe. In 2005 she returned to Greece, where she is currently works on her Ph.D. at the University of Athens.

GEFILTE FISH ? ein Leckerbissen für die Freunde jiddischer Musik.
Liebe geht ja bekanntermaßen durch den Magen, aber manchmal auch durch die Ohren... ... und so ist Gefilte Fish nicht nur eines der beliebtesten jüdischen Festtagsgerichte, sondern auch eine internationale Gruppe von engagierten Musikern, die sich den Liedern und Melodien der europäischen Juden verschrieben haben. Ihr Repertoire erstreckt sich von alten osteuropäischen Klezmermelodien und Volksliedern über sephardische Lieder (die Musik der südeuropäischen Juden) und israelischen songs bis zu Theaterliedern der Off Broadway Szene der 20ger bis 40ger Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts in New York. Nun weckt die Bezeichnung "Klezmer" bei jedem andere Erwartungen, war Klezmer doch immer ein Konglomerat verschiedener Musikstile und Musizierweisen, immer offen dafür, sich mit anderen Musikrichtungen zu verbinden; so hat "Klezmer" viele verschiedene Erscheinungsformen... Die Besetzung von GEFILTE FISH ist Gesang, Geige, Akkordeon, Gitarre und Kontrabass, aber die besondere Klangfarbe von GEFILTE FISH entsteht vor Allem durch die Arrangements der Lieder und Instrumentalstücke. Jeder der Musiker hat naturgemäß seine eigene persönliche und musikalische Geschichte und Spielweise, die in die gemeinsame Arbeit einfließen. In Harmonisierung, Stimmführung, Zwischenspielen und Soli finden sich Elemente aus Jazz, Klassik, Chanson etc und lassen so eine eigene Sprache entstehen...
