Calvinism is often misunderstood in contemporary Christianity, both in terms of what it is and where it came from. Did John Calvin invent Calvinism? Is it a denomination? What about hyper-Calvinism, free will and man's responsibility to God? I briefly discuss these issues in this introductory first video to a six part series on Calvinism. In the next five videos, I will explain and Biblically analyze the historic 'five points' of Calvinism, the TULIP: total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace and perseverance of the saints.
The best overall analysis I can recommend for the topic of Calvinistic soteriology is the DVD "Amazing Grace: The History and Theology of Calvinism." Details are available at http://www.amazinggracedvd.com/
For a brief introduction to the supralapsarian/infralapsarian discussion within Calvinism, see http://www.spurgeon.org/~phil/articles/sup_infr.htm

What I said was a quote from Paul in 1 or 2 Corinthians is really from James:
Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. (James 1:13, ESV)

How has God preserved His Word, and what are the theological implications for the doctrine
How has God preserved His Word, and what are the theological implications for the doctrine of the preservation of Scripture? Is there any basis for assuming that we do have a 100% inerrant copy of Scripture in English (i.e., is there validity to the claims of King James Onlyists)? If our copies of Scripture are not 100% inerrant, how can we still claim Biblically that God has preserved His Word?

What is the ultimate foundation of morality? A solid understanding of this is the key to challenging the twisted, false morality of a fallen world with the true righteousness of the Lord.
CLARIFICATIONS:
When I discuss "sin," the root problem, it is important to note that the Christian does have a new nature in Christ and the old sinful nature is eradicated (2 Corinthians 5:17). We still sin, however, because we still live in a fallen world with sinful flesh and under Satan's temptation, and though our spirit is born again, the new man after God's own image is being PROGRESSIVELY formed in us (Colossians 3:5-10). Thus, we are still susceptible to sinning against God. "Sin" has been severed in the Christian (cf. 1 John 3:8), and sanctification is the elimination of the remnant fruits of sin (sins). I should have made this clearer as I actually recorded the video. Namely, that "sin" is technically defeated in the Christian, but as it dies off, that where we war against sins in sanctification. That is the applicable context for the Christian life. In evangelism, unbelievers need to be told about this root --- sin --- and that it ultimately stems from a failure to obey the first great commandment of loving God, and the second of loving their neighbors like unto themselves; love is the fulfillment of the entire law (Romans 13:10). Thus it can be said that sin is a failure to love as we ought. Also, when I speak about not killing later in the video, the point I intended to convey was about murder as I had mentioned earlier in the video, not killing in general (which sometimes can be justified).

Lloyd-Jones, D. Martyn. Spiritual Depression: Its Causes and Cure. Grand Rapids: Wm. B. Eerdmans Co., 1965. 30. (My slight paraphrase; a word or two seems to have been altered as I read it on video. In this section of the book, Lloyd-Jones argues that one of the reasons Christians sometimes feel spiritually depressed is that they don't truly realize what they have been saved from. A firm conviction of the exceeding sinfulness of sin --- as Paul put it in Romans 7:13 --- is therefore necessary if we are to ever rejoice in our justification by grace thru faith. He didn't link it to evangelism directly as I may have insinuated, but the implication seems obvious. The main issue he was addressing, however, was helping believers to rejoice in their justification.)

Non-Christians often use logical fallacies in order to defend their unbelief. Christians must be equipped to detect fallacious logic and dismantle it. In like manner, Christians must also be on guard so that they themselves do not use false logic. In this video, I discuss the following fallacies:
Euphemism, dysphemism, rhetorical definition, rhetorical analogy (simile & metaphor), rhetorical explanation, innuendo, loaded question, weasler, downplayer, horse laugh and hyperbole.
Please accept my apologies for the bad lighting (i.e., the sun on one half of me). Also, in this series I use evolution and young Earth creation in some of my examples. Just to clarify: I do not think someone has to be a young Earth creationist in order to be a genuine Christian. I do find, however, that both old Earth creation and theistic evolution are Biblically-inconsistent (as well as scientifically inaccurate). For a more thorough explanation of this, see the article by Dr. Duane Gish at http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v11/i4/christian.as p
However, debating these things scientifically is not the purpose of this video series. If you post comments trying to start a scientific debate on evolution/creation, I WILL remove them. Take that debate elsewhere; this particular video series is not the place for it.
CORRECTION:
In my example for horse laugh, I made it sound more like a personal ad hominem (see video #3). A more accurate example would be, "You think the Earth is only about 6,000 years old? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard!" That is to say, a horse laugh attack is focused on ridicule of the claim without using evidence, rather than attacking the individual.

Is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints --- a.k.a. the Mormon or LDS Church --- just another denomination of Christianity?
Not at all. Mormonism is a false religion that is not only internally-inconsistent, but also is in direct conflict with the teachings of the Bible. In this study, I examine some important doctrines of Mormonism which are espoused by the LDS Church and compare them to the teachings of the Bible. The conclusion is unmistakable: Mormonism is not Christianity; it is not Biblical; it is not of God.

These are some excerpts from a two hour street sermon Bro. Anthony preached in front of the Fountains of Bellagio as his evangelism finale in Las Vegas before preparing to move back to Florida. (He just earned his master's degree in music; congratulations, brother!)
If I rightly recall, I recorded this on Saturday, June 7th. I apologize if there is any objectionable content in the background; that is part of what preaching in Las Vegas entails.

People who adhere to Calvinistic soteriology (doctrine of salvation) are often accused of being elitist; unfortunately, sometimes there are Calvinists who act in such a way. Dr. John Piper proposes a reason why this may be the case and also explains why Calvinism should not result in elitism, but rather love and humility.
