I am 47 years old (I know, I really DO look like I am 29, and so I am holding there), and love to learn, whether through books, articles, etc., in other words, reading, as well as through experience.

I am LDS, and have been all my life. Not the Peter Priesthood type, but an LDS none the same.

I teach the Elder's Quorum. (They haven't kicked me out yet for translating out the Hebrew and Greek scriptures, so so far, I am in the good - GRIN!)

I have lived here in Idaho all my life, and love it here.

I believe in studying out the best of all religions, all sciences, etc., and love to put together ideas from 40 or more different sources, and viewpoints, in order to see if underlying patterns, thoughts, or new interpretations come about.

Inevitably they do, and they have done so for over 30 years with me, so now I am to the point where I share my insights and interpretations. I love to learn, and love to share.

My wife called me the "Backyard Professor" and it stuck instantly with everyone, so here I am, the Backyard Professor. I have a B.S. from Idaho State University in History.

I love learning languages, and work on Hebrew, Greek, Latin, German, French, Egyptian Hieroglyphic, Arabic, Coptic, and Sanskrit, as I have time.

I also love making my wood art with my scrollsaw.
Country: United States
Interests and Hobbies: I love to research religions, ancient texts, Mormonism, and do woodart. I love to video record the beauty of the world and teach the power of ancient religious, philosophical, and scientific ideas.

Pt1 The Biblical Context
But Satan did NOT ruin Job's life. He tested Jobs character. There was absolutely NO RUIN involved. Go back and re-read the story. It's a mighty important one. This time re-read it without the idea of his life being ruined and you will be astonished at what it says. (22 hours ago)

Why call him Son of God and Son? Because that is what he is. He has more than one function, one calling, and one mission. There is a lot more to God than we suppose. In light of ancient Jewish and archaeological discussions as well as the Medieval Zoharic Jewish exegesis, literal offspring makes the perfect sense. Where was there ever a son without a father? Without a mother? Birth of people occurs when male and female come together and produce offspring. The same in heaven as on earth. (22 hours ago)

Pt 9 The Biblical Context
I have noticed this through the years of studying. Disagreements abound and bad information arises about the Bible. And now that NEW information arises, perhaps the comfort of having the bad info (they don't realize it is bad, of course) superceded is too much and hence the greater light and knowledge is rejected. I dunno. All I know is, these scholars and their research and findings have truly challenged me and my ideas, and increased my faith in areas I never expected. (22 hours ago)

The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God - Review (6 of 6)
A good review. Thank you for sharing your ideas on it. Another book which I have personally found to be one of the most singularly profound discussions of God's love is Blake T. Ostler, "Exploring Mormon Thought: The Problems of Theism and the Love of God," Greg Kofford Books, Salt Lake City, 2006 (503 pp). A most stimulating, astonishing, and in-depth discussion the likes of which I have not seen in print in many a decade. (1 day ago)

When Paul and James Clash - Romans & James 2
Why would my jaw drop when reading James? Only if I misunderstand out of context the false interpretation of faith without works. Jesus *never* taught this. His Sermon on the Mount is the finest expostion of *how to live.* I would propose His words are far more important than worrying about a supposed contradiction in the Bible. There isn't any. Now contradiction in interpretations? Yes those exist. But overall Biblical context takes care of that. Thanks, a good video! (1 day ago)

I am very glad my videos are helping with some understanding. Realizing however, that what I say certainly is not the last word on things, it is rather fun to explore and poke around a little. The more books I read, the more interesting it gets.

Hey there, great video series! I'm not mormon, but I'm sure learning a lot from you...I do share the view that if you don't have much time...or even if you do, it's a great starting point to learn from those who've already studied it their whole life than starting out from scratch doing the same. Thanks a lot and God bless :)

TheBackyardProfessor | July 03, 2008
Oh ack! I tried to make more Hebrew vids last night, and they didn't turn out. The blasted camera would NOT stay focused. Soooooo, I have figured it out, so perhaps tonight. I have, of dcourse, so absolutely DYNAMITE things to share. Of couse, from my view point, ANYTHING with Hebrew is dynamite ya know.

It's an interesting thing...... these so-called "labors" are actually pleasures to me. Actually, I almost feel guilty because its Hedonistic of me to produce these videos. I can't think of anything else I would rather spend my time with than learning, so that I can turn around and share it with all of you here on You Tube. Am I just totally like, *insane*?! lol..............

Thanks Backyard Professor for all thy busy labors.

Psalms 111:9 "He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."
