Bordel 1900 "Histoire du Tango" Astor Piazzolla. Mathieu Schneider flute, Michel Zbinden marimba, Baptiste Grand vibes. The History of Tango
STUDIOP3
The Ovale Trio was formed thanks to the encounter of vibes/marimba duo Michel Zbinden/Baptiste Grand and flutist Mathieu Schneider. These three musicians found that they had a common affinity for Astor Piazzolla's music and his artistic approach, in which written and improvised music come together as one. The trio explores both personal compositions and arrangements with an original sound forged by the combination of the flute, the vibraphone and the marimba. Premières Formes was mostly recorded in one single session. The original intention was to offer the listener the feeling of a live performance. This album is the testimony of the group's musical development. The track "La chambre rouge" in fact reminds us of the "pre-Ovale Trio", with a composition for two vibraphones that the duo originally comissioned to the Swiss composer Christian Giger. The tracks "Novitango" and "Oblivion" pay a tribute to the artist (Piazzolla) without whom the trio would never have formed in the first place. And finally, by serving "Lunch", the trio salutes and thanks the person who has influenced their music and artistic direction: David Friedman, the extraordinary vibes-marimba player and composer.
