This clip, from the film "Don Cherry's Multikuti," features the legend playing the composition "Walk to the Mountain." Don Cherry's "MultiKulti" embodies one of jazz's fundamental truths: Jazz music is constantly rejuvenated through instrumental interpretations of centuries-old vocal tradition upon which it is based.
Don Cherry took bold musical leaps that assured jazz a vanguard role in opening American culture to the liberating influences of the 1960s. More than three decades later, his joyful encounters with musicians and audiences continue to grow. "Multikulti," recorded at the Days of Jazz Festival in Stuttgart, finds Cherry playing pocket trumpet, keyboards, doussin gouni, melodica, African percussion, flute, and handling the vocals. Sensitive accompaniment is provided by Bay area composer Peter Apfelbaum on sax, keyboards, flute and percussion, as well as bassist Bo Freeman and drummer Joshua Jackson.
VIEW Video is proud to present Don Cherry's "Multikulti," as featured at the prestigious Day of Jazz in Stuttgart. Cherry weaves the enormous and diverse talents of his ensemble into a musical tapestry of simple and beautiful interconnectedness. Selections include "Walk to the Mountain," "Rhumba Multikulti / Race Face," "When the Rain Comes," "Bemsha Swing," and "Trans Love Airways."

Please enjoy this clip of Robin Eubanks soloing during the song "Homecoming," from the film "Dave Holland Quintet: Vortex," which also features Dave Holland (Bass), Kenny Wheeler (trumpet), Steve Coleman (Alto Sax) and Marvin "Smitty" Smith (Drums).
This concert gem stars the Quintet at the peak of their musical maturity: merging passion and logic, spontaneity and group interplay with sparkling clarity. Each musician works as a cog in the delightful engine of swing, relating his phasing to the supple beat laid down by Holland and Smith.
Merging spontaneity and group interplay, the Dave Holland Quintet rivets their audience to every phrase that's played, and transports the listener to another world. Each musician works as a cog in the delightful engine of swing, relating his phrasing to Holland and Smith's supple beat. With all its unique inventiveness, the Quintet projects an utter melodic mellowness.
Without a piano, without a "standard" song repertoire and with straight-faced concentration, the Quintet creates palpable musical shapes using innovative themes and variations. For all its unique inventiveness, they project an absolute melodic mellowness on their tunes: Vortex, Homecoming and Wiguts Waits for Weights.
