Movies and Shows: Basically, I look for strong writing apart from budget, subject or genre. For example, Studio 60 is a lukewarm stew of standard network pabulum. Stargate Atlantis while low-budget and painfully Canadian is sharp, funny, deeply introspective and always on the very top of it's game. It's not the budget...it's the writing. 'Jericho' is the new standard for 'How not to write for the apocalypse' Or 'the importance of getting your GED before writing for television'.
Music: I don't like country music. At all.
Books: At my side are 'A Concise Science Dictionary', 'Deepsix' by Jack McDevitt, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy' by Douglas Adams and 'Going Postal' by Terry Pratchett. Otherwise, I read a lot of aviation journals, Nature and Scientific American monthly.
