I just recently found the work of Prof. Freeman Dyson. I remember his name from various places in my work, but I never realized his thoughts would gel so completely with those of my own. In finding him, I've found another intellectual scientist (the likes of all the greats, Feynman, Bohr, etc.) who is a step above a large majority. Every once in a while someone shows up who so clearly sets the bar in thought. Now, if only I had time to digest all I can find of his great writings and work. Unfortunately, just as with Feynman and much of the work of Bohr, etc., I will find I cannot follow them into the realm of extreme mathematics and quantum mechanics. I may understand the generalisms of their work and its application to my work, but will have to tip my hat to their work from afar. :)

I'm very thankful for Dyson's work, and even more thankful for his work on Heresy in science and the lack of usefulness of the PhD. It's a bit sad I'm still working on mine... :)
