We have been using the term alien since 1798. Perhaps if you had picked up an AMERICAN HISTORY book you might have known, "liberalandlovinit". Maybe you should change your name to "ignorantandlovinit".. Great question Ashley!!! |

Additionally, the "illegal aliens" you talk about are human beings, not aliens. Illegal, some are, some aren't. They are our generation's new wave of immigrants, like your ancestors and my ancestors. Why don't you try to talk to them sometime? Get to know the kid who is bussing the table, the guy mowing the yard across the street, cleaning your house, working next door, sending their kid to school, attending another church down the road.... You may like the people you meet when you meet them and not want to call them aliens. They aren't that different from us.
We should all have the right to a good education, without denying the right to anyone. It is our responsibility to the future of the U.S. |

Ms. ashleylynn360, you make a strong case for us to examine our values with how we treat our neighbors and their families who serve in the Armed Forces (not mentioning our responsibility to veterans), but I think you make a false assumption with your question. You assume that the two are mutually exclusive. You make the assumption that we can only make education available to one group. If we gave as much interest to the education of all of our children, immigrants included (through assistance with college, more investment in our local schools, etc) we would not be having this debate.

EXCELLENT question! And I would expand it to not allow lower costs for illegals than for legal residents of other states--out-of-state tuition shouldn't be higher than illegal alien tuition.
States who don't do that shouldn't be able to get federal dollars for education (though I think the feds already pour too much money into universities as it is, driving the prices up.) There are smarter ways to assist students than opening a huge flow of $ to the universities so directly. Again, excellent question...I wish they were all as good as yours! |
