Sterling Magee and Adam Gussow, as Satan and Adam, play an original composition, "Groovy People," in a park just north of Dyckman Street in the Inwood section of Manhattan (NYC).
In the ALL MUSIC GUIDE TO THE BLUES, WRSU-FM DJ Richard Skelley wrote that "Magee and Gussow specialize in funky, gritty, electric urban blues, and there are few groups or artists anywhere who sound anything remotely like them...Satan and Adam have redefined and shaped the sound of modern blues so much that "I Want You" from their HARLEM BLUES debut was included on a Rhino Records release, MODERN BLUES OF THE 1990S."
For those who don't know the story: when Gussow first encountered Magee playing on the street in Harlem in 1986, Magee identified himself as "Satan," and everybody around him called him "Satan" and "Mr. Satan." The duo's performing name, Satan and Adam, was simply the title that Gussow put on the duo's first demo cassette, since the duo didn't actually have a name at that point.
Gussow is playing harp through the following rig:
--a Shure PE-5H mic --a Kendrick reverb tank --a Boss DD-2 digital delay --a 1956 Fender Bassman --a 1954 Fender Deluxe
Magee currently resides at the Boca Ciega adult-care facility in Gulfport, Florida, and plays every Monday night with his "Harlem Big Band" at the Peninsula Inn (2937 Beach Blvd S., Gulfport, FL). Visiting harp players are welcome to sit in.
Gussow currently lives in Oxford, Mississippi, where he is an Associate Professor of English and Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi.

"Crying Time" was written and recorded by Buck Owens. It's been covered by many artists including Ray Charles, Brenda Lee, and Dean Martin to name a few. I've decided to break the norm and present this multi-track version that I recorded several years ago mainly because I think a lot of the magic of this song is from the duo vocals in the chorus. It's self-produced and someday I plan to add a "weeping" pedal steel in the verses. I played along with the playback to create this clip. Enjoy. - FK
