In all of my life experiences with people of different faiths, and all my years of studying comparative religion and spirituality, I have never seen a larger disconnect than the Islam of Myth and the Islam of Reality. I HAVE seen this phenomenon politically, it's called TOTALITARIANISM. Say your people are the happiest, healthiest, freest, most tolerant, most respectful of others. and of course it's an obscene lie, AND JUST THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE but most of the people do in fact act the role out of fear for their lives. They don't dare publicly question the system.. and even brain wash themselves and their families to be fanatical supporters as a self-preservation mechanism. We are facing THEOLOGICAL TOTALITARIANISM

You make very relevent points. However i would like to add something to it.

Blind faith and an INTOLERANT doctrine makes for a very unsafe world. If people wish to be blinded by faith i have no problem with that, its only when the IDEOLOGY they follow causes death and destruction then i take issue, because their god told them to behave in such a way to lead a PIOUS existance!

No merciful god would be so sadistic and murderous!

Circular Reasoning.. yes, I went to college, I think I can comprehend this.. my arguments aren't just assertions for assertion's sake. If you want dialog with me, don't delete one of my comments and then ask me a question with your reply. That's manipulative and cowardly. I'm also a big critic of irrational, blind faith, and this is one of the reasons that I'm not an adherent to one of the Abrahamic Faiths. I'm not a Theist. In order to understand Sikhs, Hindus, Jains, Buddhist, you'll have to think outside of your Abrahamic Paradigm.. your arguments are largely not applicable.

upanishadboy, If you can comprehend "the fallacy of circular reasoning", you'll know, it hurts your own argument, not help it! Blind-faith, seems the problem, in the way it stops individuals (like you) thinking intelligently, critically, analytically and rationally and, it stops you proving, you can prove it? Instead, all you want to say is, "It's in some mythological book, and a strange god says this", so obey! Irrational Theists, are mind-lazy, gullible, manipulating, or too scared to logically reason. Instead, just believing in one or another imaginary invisible sky-god and his mythical book, with absolutely no evidence for such extraordinary claims, at-all.

It's been my observation that very often those driven individuals who most zealously attack religion.. whether atheist, agnostics, whatever -- do so out of some Freudian Defense Mechanism as a way to compensate for their own spiritual emptiness, which gnaws at them constantly on a subconscious level. Like Saul on the Road to Damascus, they are in actuality 'Seekers' who are open and receptive, and when God finally calls them, will serve Him with the same or greater fervor as when they were attacking Him.
