Darnell are Darren Shearer and Lionel Job singer songwriters from the North West of England. Darren was born in Manchester before moving around the country with his family, finally settling in Runcorn. Lionel was born in London before moving to the West Indies where he lived untill the age of 17 before moving back to England. Darnell met backstage at a Michael Jackson Concert through mutual friends who were backing dancers for Rozalla back in 1992. Rozalla was the support act, Darren and Lionel were there to see the show. It was at this time Lionel explained he was a writer and Darren explained he had many lyrics that needed music put to them. Within days Darren and Lionel were writing songs and within weeks were out playing live, to the delight of the music loving public. DARNELL have some of the finest tunes around and showcase a hybrid of influences. Lead singer Darren has a soul sounding voice and gives a big nod to pioneers such as George Michael and Prince. He is also deeply influenced by Motown. Lionel (straight up funkster) gives his time to anyone who writes a good tune, but leans more towards 70s funk. The duo are in posession of songs that have an abundance of energy and passion and are mostly based on life and relationships. They have been honing their talent on the scene and have been perfecting the craft of songwriting and performing, earning their stripes as they go. The band have been played on the radio by various stations even visiting the BBC both locally and nationally to play some live favourites. Both Darren and Lionel have also attended the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (once the stamping ground of Sir Paul McCartney) an invite based on their song writing skills. During this time they had learned much about the business side of music and its importance in progressing. ..........so what! I hear you say, well the thing is we BELIEVE we are good, we have had a succesfull record producer who has 2 songs on Lemar's album want to use one of our songs but take a 50% writers royalty????
