This is the recently patented remote-controlled metal detector called 'Decima' - after its inventor -- Decima Watkins. This machine is a godsend for people who love metal-detecting because it does all the hard work for you. Metal-detecting involves a lot of walking about, which tends to be quite exhausting after a while. But with the Decima machine, you can sit down with the remote-control while you send the machine off to find the treasure for you! This machine is fast, easy-to-operate and extremely accurate. In the last year it has been used to uncover over £2,000 worth of modern coinage, as well as over 5,000 rare coins and other valuable artefacts dating as far back as the 14th century, and even some from the Roman period.
The machine can move forwards and backwards, left and right - just like a remote-controlled car. The detector-rod sweeps automatically as it moves, simulating the motion of a manual operator. It can differentiate between different types of metal, including iron, tin, silver and gold. When the machine finds something of value hidden underground, it provides an audio alert and drops a fluorescent ball at that site, so you can return to that spot later to see what's hidden there. The machine also has powerful headlamps and laser lights on each side to make it easy to use after dark.

Pair's ingenious invention
A FATHER and daughter metal detecting team are coining it in after inventing their own machine.
Decima Watkins and dad David spent a year making the "Decima" remote control metal detector -- and have found more than £2,000 in cash using it.
The highly advanced piece of equipment, believed to be the first of its kind in the world, moves along the ground, dropping a ball when it picks up a signal suggesting there is metal beneath the ground.
Barry College art student Decima said the machine was a revolutionary tool in the quest to find ancient treasure.
"I can't believe me and my dad invented this and got it all running," said the 20-year-old.
"We've been out about 20 times and we've collected thousands of coins. "It did take a lot of time to make it and to test it all to make sure it worked properly. It took ages to find the right parts.
"It's really exciting when you find a coin. You go and dig a hole. Sometimes you find about 20 coins down one hole. I have got lots of Roman, silver and hammered coins."
Dad David, a painter and decorator, has been metal detecting for more than 20 years, and got his daughter interested at an early age.
"We always go out hunting together," said the 47-year-old, of Montgomery Road, Barry.
"I started doing it after seeing people doing it on the beach. But it takes so long to walk back and forth searching every inch of ground. "That's when I came up with the idea of a remote control metal detector. Now we can just sit down and relax while the Decima does the hard work."
All the parts needed to make the Decima are recycled from scrap dealers. It cost about £100 to make.
The determined inventors spent a year putting the machine together in David's garage.
Since using it, they have found scores of ancient coins in fields, as well as £2,000 in cash on Porthkerry Beach.
"It's a good little machine," David said
