OVERVIEW: Far Cry 2 is an upcoming first person shooter published by Ubisoft and is the sequel to Far Cry. Crytek, developers of the original game, are not involved in the development of Far Cry 2.
GAMEPLAY: The game will be entirely open-ended and non-linear. Instead of using individual maps, the game will take place in a sprawling nondescript land in Africa, with terrain ranging from wild savannah to dense jungle. The two areas of gameplay will be around 50km2 in size. Some members of the Ubisoft Montreal team spent 2 weeks in several locations in Africa filming and photographing native wildlife. The team will use the animal footage and environment photos to create an extremely realistic environment.
The protagonist of previous Far Cry games, Jack Carver, will not be featured in this game. When Ubisoft interviewed players about the original Far Cry in their research for this game, the interviewees didn't find the character very memorable or likeable. As a result, in the sequel the player will be able to choose from around 9 different characters to play, each with a unique look and back story. All of the playable characters will be different types of mercenaries. The characters the player does not choose to play will become in-game characters who are friends of the player's character.
The goal of the player's character will be to find and assassinate 'The Jackal', an arms dealer that has been selling weapons to both sides of the conflict that's tearing apart a small country. The way this is done, however is entirely up to the player, being possible to ally with anyone he/she chooses.
Various factions and vehicles will be featured; enemies will include human mercenaries, but sci-fi creatures such as the mutants from Far Cry will not be featured. Furthermore, the player's feral abilities introduced in Far Cry Instincts and its expansions will not be returning in Far Cry 2. A dynamic weather system has been added that varies the weather based on the players ability - if the player is doing exceptionally well the sky will be clear and sunny, but if problems arise the sky will become dark and stormy.
The game's producer, Louis-Pierre Pharand, says that the single player will "potentially have close to 50 hours of game play."
THE DUNIA ENGINE: Ubisoft has developed a new engine specifically for Far Cry 2, called Dunia, meaning 'world' or 'earth' in many languages including Persian, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, Marathi, Bengali, Swahili, Assyrian, Indonesian and Malay. The engine will take advantage of multi-core processors and support DirectX 9 as well as DirectX 10. Only 2 or 3 percent of the original CryENGINE code is being re-used, according to Michiel Verheijdt, Senior Product Manager for Ubisoft Netherlands.
Far Cry 2 will also support the Ambx-technology from Philips. With the proper hardware, this adds effects like vibrations, ambient coloured lights, and fans that generate wind effects. The agreement will also see an amBX patch being released for the original Far Cry.

I have a rendezvous with Death At some disputed barricade, When Spring comes back with rustling shade And apple-blossoms fill the air - I have a rendezvous with Death When Spring brings back blue days and fair. It may be he shall take my hand And lead me into his dark land And close my eyes and quench my breath - It may be I shall pass him still. I have a rendezvous with Death On some scarred slope of battered hill When Spring comes round again this year And the first meadow-flowers appear.
God knows 'twere better to be deep Pillowed in silk and scented down, Where Love throbs out in blissful sleep, Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath, Where hushed awakenings are dear... But I've a rendezvous with Death At midnight in some flaming town, When Spring trips north again this year, And I to my pledged word am true, I shall not fail that rendezvous. - Alan Seeger (1888 - 1916)

OVERVIEW: Fable II is an upcoming role playing video game exclusively for Xbox360, which is being developed by Lionhead Studios and will be published by Microsoft Game Studios. It is a sequel to Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters. Announced in 2006, the game will take place in Albion, 500 years after Fable's setting, in a colonial era resembling the time of highwaymen or the Enlightenment. Guns are still primitive, and the entire area is broken into 20 large regions and more developed large castles and cities in the place of towns. Unlike in the original, the player may choose to be either male or female.
FAMILY: The family aspect of the Fable series will be further built upon, around the love and emotion themes as touted by game creator Peter Molyneux.
The sex aspect, relatively unimportant in the first game, has also been built upon significantly. Players will be able to choose to have protected or unprotected sex, and by extension choose whether or not to have a child. Female player characters also by extension will become pregnant, and they will also undergo the relevant physical changes. Sex will, however, fade-to-black as in Fable.
The player's child or children will look upon the player as an example and will also follow their alignment, looks, etc. A player's family can also be killed by a henchman co-op player, but only if the 'safety' feature has been made active by the host player.
Same-sex marriages, as in the first game, will also be possible.
CONTENT: Albion is expected to be at least 10 times the size of the original game with 20 fully free-roaming regions and roughly 30 dungeons to explore. There are around 100 augmentable weapons, 70 augmentable clothes, and 20 different tattoos and haircuts. There are only eight basic spell types, but they are upgradeable to varying degrees, allowing for around 80 spells. There will be more than 160,000 lines of AI-driven dialogue, over 150 unique quests and more than 6 minigames. While Molyneux has stated that the player can complete the main story in 12 hours if they rush through it, it would take much longer to complete everything in the game if they play it organically as intended.
MULTIPLAYER: A co-op mode is confirmed. The mode of co-op is somewhat similar to that of Lego Star Wars Video Game; in that players will be able to drop in and out of other player's games at will. The host player can set certain rules; eg. how loot gained is split between the players and if friendly fire is active or not. Guest players will get an hourly rate of pay for helping the host out. Guest players can keep all the gold and experience they earn to take back with them into their own game world. On July 14th 2008, Molyneux demonstrated 'Albion orbs'. These orbs show where other players are in their respective worlds and allow you to, at the press of a button, bring them into your world to co-op with. Molyneux also demonstrated the possible consequences of active friendly fire in the GDC demo; the "henchman" player killed his character's husband, leaving his (female) character's son an orphan. Molyneux mentioned that the player will be able to visit his/her son/daughter in the town orphanage, however to also expect the child's disposition to possibly go to the extreme of resentment. Molyneux demonstrated this as a degree of the freedom available in the game. The actions of the henchman player are permanent in the host player's game, so killed NPCs will not be revived. Also, the henchman player's dog will not be able to join the host player's game. Molyneux also mentioned that the host player will be able to give items to any visitors that enter their world during co-op.
The player will not be assigned a set path or quest to follow. Since the game will take place over a hero's lifetime, many things will change; Molyneux gave an example of a trade camp that the player could either help or destroy. Trading in such camps would increase their profit, resulting in a small town growing around them, while stealing from the camp or massacring the camp will result in the abandonment of the area. Additionally, every accessible property (properties that can be entered by the player) in the world is ownable by the player, often unlocking further content such as quests. Molyneux also announced that players will be able to purchase furniture and fully customize their houses and property. Titles will be awarded for buying property; if one were to buy every building and piece of land in a town, they may become known as the mayor, king, and eventually emperor of the entire land of Albion.
The environment in Fable II will feature trees with branches and leaves that are individually animated according to their own unique physics, each tree having roughly 120,000 leaves. There are also around 15 million poppies, as well as a flower unique and common to Albion.

OVERVIEW: Resident Evil 5, (known in Japan as Baiohazādo Faibu - Biohazard 5), is the forthcoming installment in the Resident Evil survival horror series, which is set to debut for Xbox360 and PS3. It will be developed and published by Capcom. Capcom officially announced Resident Evil 5 on July 20th 2005.
GAMEPLAY: Jun Takeuchi, the game's producer, stated the Resident Evil 5 will feature similar gameplay to Resident Evil 4; The player will control Redfield similarly to how the player controlled Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 4. The game's environment will also play a significant role. For example, if Redfield suffers prolonged exposure to heat, he will begin to see mirages and hallucinations. Also, the game implements various lighting effects. If Redfield moves between bright and dark areas his eyes will have to adjust, causing the player to briefly lose some visual of their surroundings.
The game will also feature new types of enemies. The extended E3 trailer revealed several sequences involving Redfield attacking hordes of fleet-footed enemies, who possessed melee weapons. Takeuchi has also stated the game's enemies will also possess human-like intelligence and awareness. Furthermore, he stated they will be different from the previous zombies etc.
Resident Evil 5's main story mode can be played with two players, in a co-operative online mode. The feature will allow players to enter or leave anytime during the game. Both players will not always stick together, and can be separated at points during the gameplay.
Resident Evil 5 is slated for release in Japan on March 12th 2009, and March 13th 2009 in North America and Europe.

Mirror's Edge is an upcoming first-person action-adventure video game that is being developed by Digital Illusions CE (DICE) & published by EA. The game will be released on multiple platforms simultaneously in late 2008.
The game has a realistic, brightly-coloured style and differs from other first-person perspective video games in allowing for a wider range of actions—such as sliding under barriers, tumbling, wall-running, and shimmying across ledges—and greater freedom of movement, in having no HUD, and in allowing the legs, arms, and torso of the character to be visible on-screen.
In order to address the issue of simulation sickness that is concomitant with the free movement of the camera in first-person view, a small reticle was placed in the centre of the screen, though this is not apparent from the first video released because it was removed from the in-game footage shown. The reticle serves as an aiming point and as a focal point to prevent the player from experiencing dizziness, working in a similar fashion to the dance technique called spotting. Other than this reticle, no HUD exists in the game.
The game is set in a conformist dystopia in which communication is heavily monitored by a totalitarian regime, and so a network of runners, including the main character, Faith, are used to transmit messages while evading government surveillance.
