Glenn Gould - Bach - Variation 15 (Goldberg Variations)
I scanned the front and back of Gould's English Suites album from the Original Jacket Collection. I thought it would be cool to merge them into each other like that (the whole Gould as Bach idea). Thanks for watching! (14 hours ago)

王菲 - 給自己的情書
This is such an incredibly gorgeous song. I find a different sense of beauty in it upon each listening. (1 day ago)

Glenn Gould Plays Bach: Invention no. 13! FAST and Perfect
Okay, I understand what you mean. I guess someone people aren't bothered by it and some hare. After all, it is extramusical and I don't mind the merging of the music with an occasional subtle hint of his vocalization. (3 days ago)

Well, that's what I mean. He IS considered one of the great pianists. I don't think that's a debatable point: Glenn Gould is considered (not on an individual basis, but generally) to be one of the greats. (3 days ago)

In what way is it wasted? Artistic appreciation? Popularity? Revenue generation? As for his attitudes, I think it's wonderful he thought so differently (and provocatively). And the singing he had stated on multiple occasions is something he played much less well without. I see no reason to maliciously doubt his own word on such a harmless topic. (3 days ago)

I'm thinking about using it in a video in conjunction with a 12-tone piece (haven't decided which yet) since I find 12 tone to be an interesting paradox of system (the tone row) and negation (of tonality) co-exesting within one form. The quote is somewhat long, which makes it slightly more difficult to use, but I think if I split it up into 3 or 4 consecutive slides it could work.

I like your point about system/negation in culture and religion -- I hadn't thought of it in that light but it's v. interesting. GG's ideas have also greatly enriched my life -- they have that same creativity, articulateness, and perceptiveness that is so very present in his music.

Here's one of my favorite GG quotes:

"The trouble begins when we start to be so impressed by the strategies of our systematized thought that we forget that it does relate to an obverse, that it is hewn from negation, that it is but very small security against the void of negation which surrounds it. And when that happens, when we forget these things, all sorts of mechanical failures begin to disrupt the functions of the human personality. When people who practice an art like music become captives of those positive assumptions of system, when they forget to credit that happening against negation which system is, and when they become disrespectful of the immensity of negation compared to system -- then they put themselves out of reach of that replenishment of invention upon which creative ideas depend, because invention is, in fact, a cautious dipping into the negation that lies outside system from a position firmly ensconced in system."
