THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC - MORNING SONG written by Robin Lerner & Tommy Lee James, critically acclaimed songwriting team from America (SHE'S MY KIND OF RAIN performed by Tim McGraw) with tracks by the illustrious Stephan Oberhoff.
When we began the search for new music for this project, I was honoured when Robin presented me with songs for consideration.
Though I have this up on my MYSPACE page music player, at this time we haven't done a video for it as it is just a demo, but we wanted to put it up on YouTube so we did it as a video slideshow.
Because photography is a hobby of mine, to reflect my memories and interpretation of the song, we decided to make the video from photographs that I have taken and a few others, done as a backdrop to the vocal.
From the first time I heard MORNING SONG, there was something about it that got to me right away.
I wanted to know if there was a story behind the writing of the lyrics, so we asked Robin.
Robin told us that when Tommy gave her the music to write the lyrics to, it was around the time that the American girl Natalee Holloway had disappeared in May of 2005 on a graduation trip to Aruba. She said, "It was all over the news. As a mother of a daughter, the words just came from my heart, one mother relating to another mother on the most unconscionable, most horrible of loss, losing your child. A loss that is never meant to happen. The unimaginable emptiness of a parent losing a child, and how do you go on."
Even though the haunting and beautiful tune and lyrics of MORNING SONG affected me on an emotional level, when I learned that the inspiration behind the lyric had been the missing girl in Aruba and particularly Robin writing the lyrics from the mother's perspective, I related to the situation on a different personal level.
Having myself lost a sister to a rare illness, all be it when I was still an infant, I have been acutely aware of the life changing effect this kind of loss has on a family and that the law of nature perhaps dictates that the loss is most profound for the mother.
Currently there is a very raw reminder of the story behind MORNING SONG with the ordeal being experienced by the parents of Madeleine McCann, a three year old British girl that went missing in May of 2007, while on vacation with her parents in Portugal.
Sadly, too many parents and family members have to face this kind of loss with children that go missing and are never found, and so many children lost to illness, every year.
Thanks to all of you not only for your wonderful support of my music, but for the heartfelt comments and responses that you have all been sharing with us, that have touched and honoured us all.
peace and love to you all, David

The song of hummers sounds like a jazz riff to me, see what you think. I've tried duplicating it vocally and it is tough. The bird next to me now has a different riff than the one I learned before. Haven't learned this one yet, but can recognise it and it helps me locate the tiny bird

Can we drive on water? Sure, we've been doing it for two hundred years. Water converted to steam can drive heavy engines and move trains full of people. The steam horse needs careful grooming to keep in shape. Greasing, oiling, polishing and painting: it's the engineer's job to keep the engine going at all times. I AM DEDICATING this video to Deidre Bonham, who designed the 'Habbin-eros' logo along with Bev for my MySpace fan page. She has been requesting that I put up a video of me singing 'Somewhere' from West Side Story. Deidre faces many medical challenges every day and is now recovering from a serious surgery. Even though this is just a little rehearsal video, it is my pleasure to dedicate this to her and wish her a speedy and full recovery.
Reheasing in London with Catriona Beveridge.
