I did meet Karen and Richard Carpenter in 1975 while they were on tour in North America promoting their Horizon album. Although I was only a kid I knew something was wrong with Karen. She weighed no more than 90 lbs and the audience just gasped at her appearance when she took the stage.
Karen's voice, as always, was chilling perfection and Richard's musical genius was clearly evident. However, there was an air of sadness in their personalities that just seemed at odds with their wholesome personas. Rumours of Karen having cancer were circulated by the public and the press at this time. I'll always remember a reporter mumbling, under his breath...." I think we just saw the dark side of the American Dream." Richard and Karen were brilliant artists that deserved better. I am forever grateful for experiencing their magic. PGAD Nov. 25, 2007 |

did you know Karen Carpenter personally and Richard? It looks that way on your site. If so you must miss her more than any of us, except Rich of course. Do you still chat with him, how's he doing?
I saw a clip of a recent documentary on here and Richard still seems very angry and hurt inside over all that happened with Karen. We must pray for him. God bless you always. Lisa |
