Name: Council for a Livable World
Age: 46
This group is for people who want to see a more peaceful world, and are ready to take action to make it a reality. The Council's political action seeks to:
* stop the spread and use of WMD
* redeploy troops from Iraq
* stop a war with Iran
* find non-military solutions to int'l conflict
* keep the military budget in check
Council for a Livable World was founded in 1962 by eminent nuclear physicist Leo Szilard and other scientists who worked in the pioneer days of atomic weapons.
The goal of these men and women, who knew firsthand the nature of nuclear weapons, was to warn the public and Congress of the threat of nuclear war and lead the way to rational arms control and nuclear disarmament.
With the end of the Cold War, the Council's mission to rid the world of nuclear weapons and pursue a responsible national security policy is as relevant as ever. Today we help grassroots individuals like yourself take political actions. Here are examples of what we help activists do:
* sign petitions
* get background information on the issues
* send letters to the media
* talk to Members of Congress
* support candidates in close electoral races
The Council works directly with Congress to inform Members of Congress about important national security issues. The Council is driven by its grassroots membership, including you.
