Feb.18.2008 - Polk County, North Carolina - In spite of an obviously exaggerated warrant, abuse of innocent neighbors and questionable police methods, Steve Marlowe has been reindicted on three charges (2 felonies and 1 misdemeanor)resulting from the bust of his small medical marijuana "grow". Determined to find out who lied and why, Steve sees the corruption engendered by prohibition as sadly typical in communities everywhere, calling on all of us to "Come together, stand up and end this! - Call your representatives in government and keep letting them know 'til they listen. Write letters to the newspaper; get a discussion going in your community; join a group working for change; talk to your church leaders (many now see the tragedy of the drug war)- We owe it to our communities and future generations to bring back integrity in the enforcement of our laws.
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law', because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Thomas Jefferson A letter to the editor from Steve marlowe: http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v08/n279/a10.html

Nov.13.07 - Polk County,NC Sheriff's dept raids Loth Lorian, confiscating marijuana plants and grow equipment. Steve signs his own bond and goes home for the night. Nov.14.07 - Before 1st appearance in court, Steve states intent to defend himself, place his faith in a jury and accept no fines or probation. He pleads not guilty. Dec.4.07 - Local TV station, following Steve's case, related news articles and the launch of a new medical marijuana advocacy organization (Americans for Safe Access) by Jean Marlowe, interviews Jean and Steve. http://www.safeaccessnow.org News articles: http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v07/n1339/a04.html http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v07/n1407/a05.html Dec.5.07 - Steve files motions for discovery, access to evidence and police notes, etc. Dec.10.07 - Two days before his next court date, Steve and friends walk in the nearby mountains, enjoying the freedom he values. Dec.12.07 - Steve goes to court today and will find out if the state plans to proceed and bind his case over to Superior Court. Steve Marlowe has gone through this before in Polk County (see other videos and news stories) and has found that representing himself with total candor to a jury can be resonable way to deal with a bad law. Steve is also very concerned about the inaccurate warrant, obviously based on lies, and the implications for the community if the police have no respect for the truth, are motivated by potential siezures/high-profile cases and have no regard for their sacred oath to adhere to the Constitution.
