Why else would he SAY that? A believer would have said the opposite.

Part 3. Than you have the Christians like you who from unknown sources claim to know that the bible was not meant to be taken literally. That some how when the bible talks about a day its not a day as we know them now it must be a day of billions of years. I guess to explain the age of the universe now. And when God talks about creating man and breathing into his nostrils the breath of life and man becoming a living soul and removing a rib from Adam to make a woman that he is somehow talking about billions of years of evolution.
How do you come to those conclusions from reading the bible? You cant so you make up your own explanations or blindly follow other peoples. You just cant face the fact that no God exists. You are willing to believe anything as long as it will allow you to keep your God delusion. |

Part 2. Science always goes with the theory that is most consistent with what they are observing. Anything that is not consistent with the OBSERVABLE facts are discarded and not used as a theory. Unlike Christians who will make up any kind of ridiculous excuse to explain the inconsistency's of the bible. The very book that their whole belief in a God is based on.
Here is a good example. Most Christians still believe in the bible literally word for word. They believe thats what God said thats what God meant. They totally throw out what science has proven by making all kinds of ridiculous statements about the earth being only 6 thousand years old and that we coexisted with dinosaurs etc etc. |

To AstroScorp1 Part 1. I'm curious as to what method you use to pick and choose what in the bible is myth and what is fact? It just seems to me that if the bible was as most of Christians believe, a book inspired by God to be used to tell us our heritage/origins, where we have been and where we are going and what we need to do to be saved and go to heaven.
In short a virtual road map from our very beginnings to our salvation he would not leave it up to everybody to each interpret it their own way. He would say what he means. Your correct in one respect, its obvious the bible was written by men that only had bronze age knowledge. |

It seems obvious why this stuff wasn't in the Bible. We found out it was there without it didn't we? It is obvious also that 5,000 year old ancient man couldn't have and wouldn't have comprehended any of it. God would naturally allow a development--allowing us to use the intelligence He gave to us to see what was out there for ourselves--and by His mercy we have. This is a testament to God--and the account in Genesis is a glorious holy myth given to the ancients for spiritual purpose--and as such we can use them today.

Roza - Please post the Surahs where the big bang, expansion of the Universe are mentioned (I know it's 51:47) and I shall post several translations from BEFORE 1976 when Maurice Bucaille (a non-Muslim Frenchman, who did NOT convert) CHANGED the interpretations to fit modern science so he could make millions from gullible Muslims desperate to have some shred of scientific respectability. Let's play.
As for your question. Google it for more detail. But, briefly, and clumsily, the observable universe is that part of the Universe that has had time for its light to reach us. The Universe itself, NOW, we believe, will be MUCH larger because it has continued to expand in those 14 (approx.) billion years, but its light has not and never will have time to reach us. Nothing with mass can move faster than light, but the rate of expansion between galaxies can result in galaxies "receding" at a greater apparent velocity than light. We will never see them. |
