A profilic recording guitarist, Peter Posa was born the son of Dalmatian wine growers from Henderson, New Zealand. He began plying guitar at seven, started recording at 18 and turned professional at 20. His most succesful record was "The White Rabbit" which reached the charts in most Australian states in 1963. He was a technically proficient player and used multi-tracking to good effect, reminding one of Les Paul on occasions.
Instrumentalists probably enjoyed their moment of chart success more in the sixties than any other era with Peter Posa certainly leading the way in New Zealand. His 1963 hit The White Rabbit not only won over Kiwi's but also made it into the Australian top twenty. Peter went on to record an amazing nineteen albums and enjoyed a string of chart hits including Wheels and Grasshopper.

On April 29th 1962 with Charles Blackwell directing operations his debut 45 "Besame Mucho" was taped in the studios of Decca. A radically different sound experience to his earlier work with The Shadows, Jet was heard using a Fender VI Bass, tuned down an octave compared to the norm to give the disc a deep and distinctive sound. Tony Meehan drummed along with his ex- collegue. "Besame Mucho" was a great side though with it's girlie chorus and fabulous moody image.
The song written by Consuelo Velásquez (Mexico) in 1941 was based upon "Quejas O La Maja Y El Ruisenor (The Girl And The Nightingale)", a piano piece from 1911 of the Spanish composer Enrique Granados

British rock'n'roll group Jimmy Duncombe & The Rackets. "Black Eyes (Dark Eyes / Ochi Chornye / Les yeux noirs / Panung hideung / Ojos negros / Schwarze Augen)" played in the Dutch indorock style from The Tielman Brothers. In August 1961 Jimmy Duncombe started as lead guitarist from "Sonny Steward & The Dynamos" an engagement at the Top Ten Club in Hamburg (Reeperbahn), shortly after the Beatles had played there. During this time he learned a lot from Tony Sheridan, the club's singer. During a gig at Bernhards Eck in Hanau, Germany in 1962 he saw The Tielman Brothers for the first time in the Jolly Bar. They became his all time favourite live band.
February 24th, 1964. As The Continentals: Lawrence "Curly" Spector on bass, Barry Jeffers on the piano, Reginald "Buzz" Washington on drums, Joe Cunningham on guitar and Jimmy Duncombe lead guitar (left handed) and vocals, they had a demo record made at Tonstudio Bauer near Ludwigsburg in Germany. Within only 3 1/2 hours they recorded 13 songs! "My Soul", "Pretend", "Mona Lisa" and Jimmy's brilliant guitar play on "Black Eyes" were on the list. All released as Jimmy Duncombe & The Records by Elite.

The G-Men was the backing band from John Kongos and have recorded some great instrumentals. "Raunchy Twist" has a spectacular biting echo sound! John Kongos was born in Johannesburg in 1946 and grew up in Brakpan where his mother owned a nightclub called The Fireplace. When he was 12 he attended one of Tommy Steele's South African shows and was inspired to go into the Rock 'n Roll business. At age 15 he fronted The Dukes taking further inspiration from Hank Marvin of the Shadows. They performed at The Fireplace and were eventually signed to a small local label and had a few local hits with covers of familiar pop songs.
The group changed their name to the G-Men and and in 1963 were banned from appearing at the Rand Show as were deemed to attract "too large a crowd". In the same year Kongos made his first trip to the UK. Although trying out for a couple of major labels he did not have much sucess and returned to South Africa.
Through his connections with Pye Record's South African distributors, Teal, he had an "in" with Pye and returned to the UK in 1966 and recorded 'I Love Mary'/ 'Goodtime Party Companion' on Pye's subsidiary label Piccadilly. He then hit the road touring with a group called Scrugg which consisted of a number of the G-Men and some British musicians. The group also recorded a few singles which received a fair share of airplay, but did not yield any chart success. The group disbanded in 1968 and Kongos went solo.
