"Merchants say the video doesn't show a moment when, as Williams tends to one of the people already handcuffed, the girl jumps him from behind and hits him....Merchants Bobbie Golden and Jerry Milroy said Canterbury went after Williams and that he was defending himself. "That girl was hitting him and had her hands around his neck," Milroy said.
Golden added, "They were resisting him. He was defending himself with that headlock." " -Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, June 28, 2007 ""Billingsley is a little old man," Martin said indignantly. "He can't weigh 140 pounds, and he's maybe 5 foot 7. He was trying to be nice. He kept telling her, ' Settle down, now, settle down, '" and she just kept kicking him. " Billingsley already had a bleeding hand, the merchants said, from when McCormack knocked him down. That injury, according to a police report, is why McCormack faces a battery charge." -Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, June 28, 2007 |

Eyewitness Bobbie Golden says "The kids most definitely were out of line. They shouldn't have been skateboarding down here."
He says what you don't see on the tape is the girl skater at one point jumping on the officers back while another was trying to pull the officer's arm off their friend. "When the police officer asked him to stop, if he had gotten off his board and walked, there wouldn't have been a problem at all but he didn't. He started telling him, 'Let's go! Let's go!'" -Todays HTV 6/27/2007 |

Matthew Jon McCormack, 21, of Hot Springs pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of third-degree battery for allegedly striking Hot Springs Community Services officer Kenneth Billingsley. Billingsley was assisting police officer Joey Williams, who was arresting McCormack. McCormack was fined $210, plus costs, and ordered him to perform 30 days of community service.
-AP newswire, 8/16/2007 Skylar Nalls, 19, pleaded no contest Wednesday to violating a city skateboarding ordinance and to misdemeanor charges of fleeing and obstructing government operations. Police say Nalls attempted to interfere with an officer arrested other youths. He was sentenced to 30 days community service and $85 in fines, plus court costs. -AP newswire, 8/16/2007 |
