I was born and raised in Portugal but now live in Los Angeles. I've never seen that show here.

Obrigada Curiossera and Meggiblu - thank you for all your kind words about Sunshine Again. I agree that there was some kind of low self esteem thing that happened to our grandparents when they got here - in my case, great-grandparents - they gave up speaking Portuguese in their quest to be American; but that decision almost robbed us of our heritage. I hope this show does as well as it promises to. One day we will be proud to speak this language again, and it will be heard everywhere. Guess what: did either of you know that Avis Rent A Car offers Portuguese as one of the languages on their national website? They are the only corporation I know of who do! It's right there on the upper right corner of the site: English - Spanish - Portuguese! I wrote them an email thanking them for this and I think all of us should! Ate ja!

Being Portuguese/American with 4 grandparents from Portugal much appreciation for the 'Sunshine Again' project. Growing up in Southeastern MA & RI allowed me to live with European Portuguese culture and language; however understandably many P/A did/do not. I wonder if in the quest to be 'Americans' in former years if European Portuguese was not somewhat lost by our own families also. 2 Grandparents demanded it be spoken in their home, 2 dropped it in favor of English. Therefore my mom was fluent my dad only understood words. Ideally, families need to keep the Portuguese language alive and use it in the home..as most Spanish do. All the Best for a wonderful project!
