http://techgeeks.co.nr/ In Windows XP everytime you open My Computer to browse folders XP automatically searches for network files and printers. This causes a delay in displaying your icons. You probably see the "default" windows icon and as you scroll it changes to the correct icon. This is how to stop that...
1. Open My Computer 2. Click on the Tools menu and select Folder Options... 3. Under Folder Options select the view tab. 4. Uncheck the very first box that reads "Automatically search for network folders and printers". 5. Click "Apply" or "OK"
You should see a dramatic increase in speed when Windows displays your icons.
What is Windows Explorer: Windows Explorer is an application that is part of modern versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system that runs on top of the Windows operating system and provides a graphical user interface for accessing the file systems, though is not integral to the running of a Windows computer. It is the component of the operating system that presents the user interface on the monitor and enables the user to control the computer. It is sometimes referred to as the Windows GUI shell, or simply "Explorer".
Overveiw: The Windows Explorer debuted in Windows 95 as a replacement for the older Windows 3.x File Manager. It could be accessed by double-clicking the new My Computer desktop icon, or launched from the new Start Menu (which succeeded the earlier Program Manager). There is also a shortcut key combination -- Windows key + E. Successive versions of Windows (and in some cases, Internet Explorer) introduced new features and capabilities, removed other features, and generally progressed from being a simple file system navigation tool into a task-based file management system. While "Windows Explorer" is a term most commonly used to describe the file management aspect of the operating system, the Explorer process also houses the operating system's search functionality and File Type associations (based on filename extensions), and is responsible for displaying the desktop icons, the Start Menu, the Taskbar, and the Control Panel. Collectively, these features are known as the Windows Shell. In the Explorer window, Files and Folders are displayed by a ListView component (SysListView32) making up the majority of the window. When a user chooses to "Explore" the left hand side will display a TreeView, showing the folder structure.

http://techgeeks.co.nr/ A cookie is a piece of information that an Internet website sends to your browser when you access information at that site. Upon receipt of the information your browser saves the information on your hard-disk (unless your browser doesn't support cookies). Each time you use your computer to access that same website, the information that was previously received is sent back to the website by your browser. Most commonly used browsers support the use of cookies.
Why are cookies used? Generally, for those of us that access the Internet through a public ISP, each request we make to a website cannot be linked to a previous request, as each request does not contain a permanent unique identifier. Cookies allow website operators to assign a unique permanent identifier to a computer which can be used to associate the requests made to the website from that computer.
Cookies indicate to a website that you have been there before and can be used to record what parts of a website you visit. While cookies in themselves may not identify you, in the way a name or address does, a cookie could potentially be linked with other identifying information. For example, if you provide extra information about yourself to the website by buying something on-line or subscribing to a free service, then the cookies can be used to build up a profile of your buying habits and what you are interested in. They can then be used to tailor banner advertising to your interests.

http://techgeeks.co.nr/ Update:you can now just upload images as your profile picture...i know this so please stop leaving idiotic comments
This is a tutorial on how to make you channel icon video invisible, i also included how to make a youtube video. It is very common here on youtube to think that you cannot make your video private and your profile pic at the same time.
Youtube? YouTube is a video sharing website where users can upload, view and share video clips. YouTube was created in mid-February 2005 by three former PayPal employees.[1] The San Bruno-based service uses Adobe Flash technology to display a wide variety of video content, including movie clips, TV clips and music videos, as well as amateur content such as videoblogging and short original videos. In October 2006, Google Inc. announced that it had reached a deal to acquire the company for US$1.65 billion in Google stock. The deal closed on November 13, 2006.[2] Unregistered users can watch most videos on the site, while registered users are permitted to upload an unlimited number of videos. Some videos are available only to users of age 18 or older (e.g. videos containing potentially offensive content). The uploading of videos containing pornography, nudity, defamation, harassment, commercial advertisements and material encouraging criminal conduct is prohibited. Related videos, determined by title and tags, appear onscreen to the right of a given video. In YouTube's second year, functions were added to enhance user ability to post video 'responses' and subscribe to content feeds. Few statistics are publicly available regarding the number of videos on YouTube. However, in July 2006, the company revealed that more than 100 million videos were being watched every day, and 2.5 billion videos were watched in June 2006. 50,000 videos were being added per day in May 2006, and this increased to 65,000 by July.[3] In January 2008 alone, nearly 79 million users watched over 3 billion videos on YouTube.[4] In August 2006, The Wall Street Journal published an article revealing that YouTube was hosting about 6.1 million videos (requiring about 45 terabytes of storage space), and had about 500,000 user accounts.[5] As of March 22, 2008, a YouTube search returns about 77.3 million videos and 2.89 million user channels.[6][7] YouTube consumes roughly 1 terabyte of bandwidth a second costing approximately $1 million a day.

http://techgeeks.co.nr/ Windows has a big problem with AVI previews taking 100% CPU usage
http://techgeeks.co.nr/ Windows has a big problem with AVI previews taking 100% CPU usage even in a high power computer. Here is how to prevent that and keep your windows running nice and smooth. 1. Open up regedit 2. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\Proper tyHandler 3. Delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"
Now reboot!
What is CPU: Abbreviation for central processing unit, and pronounced as separate letters. The CPU is the brains of the computer. Sometimes referred to simply as the central processor, but more commonly called processor, the CPU is where most calculations take place. In terms of computing power, the CPU is the most important element of a computer system.
Bottom line: Maintaining a clean computer is critical and this helps you do so.
CPU speed is measure in megahertz. A 1MHz CPU can accomplish one million CPU cycles in one second. Does this mean that a 2MHz CPU is twice as fast as a 1Mhz CPU? Not necessarily. This depends on how much work each CPU accomplishes in each clock cycle. The 1MHz CPU might very well be faster, in practice, than the 2Mhz CPU - if it is more efficient or can process more tasks in each CPU cycle.
The purpose of a cache is to enable the CPU to access recently used information very quickly. A cache will significantly affect CPU performance. However, caches also represent some difficulties in simple comparison. Some caches are bigger than others. A typical L1 cache is 256Kb and a typical L2 cache is 1MB. Generally speaking, the larger the cache, the better the system performance boost. However, this is not always the case. A cache operates at a certain speed, just like the core of the CPU. Some caches operate at the full speed of the CPU, while others operate at half that speed or less. A small cache which operates at full speed may be much more useful than a cache which is twice as large but operates at only half the speed of the CPU. Even comparing cache sizes can be difficult. Some CPU's utilize inclusive caches. In a CPU with an exclusive cache, the data stored in the L1 cache is often duplicated in the L2 cache. Only CPUs which employ exclusive caches will have the full capacity of their L2 caches available.
RAM has an access speed. Faster RAM will mean the CPU has to wait less often for data. This will, effectively, make the CPU faster.

http://techgeeks.co.nr/ Windows XP is much better at handling high-speed Internet connections than the "made for dial-up" Windows 98, but there is still one little tweak that can increase your connection speed. The following tweak only works with Windows XP Professional:
-Click Start, Select "Run" -Type "GPedit.msc" -Expand the "local computer policy" branch -Expand the administrative templates" branch -Expand the "network branch" -Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in the left window -In the right window, double-click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting -One the setting tab, check the "enabled" item -Where its says "Bandwidth limit %," change it to read 0 -Close out of the window and reboot to make the new settings active.
What it Bandwidth: The term bandwidth has a number of technical meanings but since the popularization of the Internet, it has generally referred to the volume of information per unit of time that a transmission medium (like an Internet connection) can handle.
Its use: In electronic communication, bandwidth is the width of the range (or band) of frequencies that an electronic signal uses on a given transmission medium. In this usage, bandwidth is expressed in terms of the difference between the highest-frequency signal component and the lowest-frequency signal component. Since the frequency of a signal is measured in hertz (the number of cycles of change per second), a given bandwidth is the difference in hertz between the highest frequency the signal uses and the lowest frequency it uses. A typical voice signal has a bandwidth of approximately three kilohertz (3 kHz); an analog television (TV) broadcast video signal has a bandwidth of six megahertz (6 MHz) -- some 2,000 times as wide as the voice signal. 2) In computer networks, bandwidth is often used as a synonym for data transfer rate - the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second). This kind of bandwidth is usually expressed in bits (of data) per second (bps). Occasionally, it's expressed as bytes per second (Bps). A modem that works at 57,600 bps hastwice the bandwidth of a modem that works at 28,800 bps. In general, a link with a high bandwidth is one that may be able to carry enough information to sustain the succession of images in a video presentation.
It should be remembered that a real communications path usually consists of a succession of links, each with its own bandwidth. If one of these is much slower than the rest, it is said to be a bandwidth bottleneck.

http://techgeeks.co.nr/ If like me you've tried everything else and your log-in and log-off to XP is still tremendously slow then you might try this little trick. First, if there are any other users on your computer see if they have a similarly long log-in. If they don't the problem might be your roaming profile, which is a folder where XP stores your settings you can access them from anywhere in the network. Since these profiles can get really bloated(as in my case) and are not really necessary unless you log-in from different computers in a large network, you should disable it. Here's how:
1. Right click on My Computer, select the Manage option.
2. From the Management Console, select the Local Users and Groups option.
3. Double-Click on the Users folder that appears on the right panel.
4. Right click on the account with the slow log-in and select Properties.
5. Click on the Profile tab of the Properties Window.
6. Erase(but keep note a not of this) whatever path appears for Profile Path under User Profile and Local Path under Home Folder: LEAVE THESE LINES BLANK.
7. Reboot. Try to log-in into the problematic account, you should see a significant speed-boost, the computer might warn you once or twice that your Roaming Profile is not available, ignore it and it will go away, good luck!

ipconfig (Internet Protocol Configuration) in Microsoft Windows is a console application that displays all current TCP/IP network configuration values and refreshes Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol DHCP and Domain Name System DNS settings.[1] Similar GUI tools named winipcfg & wntipcfg also exist. The former pre-dates ipconfig. ipconfig in Mac OS X serves as a wrapper to the IPConfiguration agent, and can be used to control the BootP and DHCP client from the command line interface.[2] Like most UNIX-based operating systems, Mac OS X also uses ifconfig for more direct control over network interfaces, such as configuring static IP addresses. In UNIX and Linux Systems, the ifconfig command is used instead.
Hot Keys: IPCONFIG /all Display full configuration information.
IPCONFIG /release [adapter] Release the IP address for the specified adapter.
IPCONFIG /renew [adapter] Renew the IP address for the specified adapter.
IPCONFIG /flushdns Purge the DNS Resolver cache. ##
IPCONFIG /registerdns Refresh all DHCP leases and re-register DNS names. ##
IPCONFIG /displaydns Display the contents of the DNS Resolver Cache. ##

http://techgeeks.co.nr/ Ever wonder how to download flash game ads that you constantly see
http://techgeeks.co.nr/ Ever wonder how to download flash game ads that you constantly see around the internet, well this video will help explain how to do so.
What are flash games? Advertising is a paid, one-way communication through a medium in which the sponsor is identified and the message is controlled by the sponsor. Variations include publicity, public relations, etc. Every major medium is used to deliver these messages, including: television, radio, movies, magazines, newspapers, video games, the Internet (see Internet advertising), and billboards. Advertising is often placed by an advertising agency on behalf of a company. Advertisements can also be seen on the seats of grocery carts, on the walls of an airport walkway, on the sides of buses, heard in telephone hold messages and in-store public address systems. Advertisements are usually placed anywhere an audience can easily and/or frequently access visuals and/or audio. Advertising clients are predominantly, but not exclusively, profit-generating corporations seeking to increase demand for their products or services. Some organizations which frequently spend large sums of money on advertising but do not strictly sell a product or service to the general public include: political parties, interest groups, religion-supporting organizations, and militaries looking for new recruits. Additionally, some non-profit organizations are not typical advertising clients and rely upon free channels, such as public service announcements. The advertising industry is large and growing. In the United States alone in 2005, spending on advertising reached $144.32 billion, reported TNS Media Intelligence. That same year, according to a report titled Global Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2006-2010 issued by global accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, worldwide advertising spending was $385 billion. The accounting firm's report projected worldwide advertisement spending to exceed half-a-trillion dollars by 2010. While advertising can be seen as necessary for economic growth, it is not without social costs. Unsolicited Commercial Email and other forms of spam have become so prevalent as to have become a major nuisance to users of these services, as well as being a financial burden on internet service providers.Advertising is increasingly invading public spaces, such as schools, which some critics argue is a form of child exploitation

Change Your Desktop Wallpaper written by Greg Melton on Thursday, September 19, 2002
It's time to make your PC a little more personal. Explore your desktop wallpaper options. You can save almost any image as desktop wallpaper. Windows lets you assign the images in a couple of different ways. The most common method is to select a graphic from the list of pre-installed wallpaper images or a bitmap image of your choice. Another method is to enable Active Desktop.
Display Properties Here's how to change your pre-installed wallpaper image to another pre-installed image or bitmap file. 1. Point your cursor to an empty space on the desktop. 2. Right-click and choose Properties. 3. Go to the Background tab. 4. Choose a bitmap image wallpaper. Your choices are denoted with an icon that resembles a folded piece of paper with art supplies in a jar. 5. You can also browse for the image on your hard drive. Make sure to choose a bitmap image to avoid enabling Active Desktop. 6. Decide how you want to display the image. 7. Press Apply and OK.
Saving images off the Web When you're surfing the Net you may come across an image you want to use as your desktop wallpaper. Right-click the image and choose Set as Background. Windows will convert the image to a bitmap and add it to your list of pre-installed wallpaper images.
Active Desktop What if you want to use an HTML or Shockwave Flash document as wallpaper? Microsoft developed Active Desktop to let you use those non-bitmap documents. Active Desktop sits on top of your regular desktop and functions like an Internet browser. Consequently, you can have separate background images in Active Desktop and your Display Properties at the same time.
Here's how to enable Active Desktop. 1. Point your cursor to an empty space on the desktop. 2. Right-click and select Active Desktop. 3. Select View as Webpage.
When you want to disable Active Desktop, just unselect the View as Webpage option. When you turn off Active Desktop, your previously selected desktop wallpaper appears.
To use a non-bitmap image such as a JPEG or GIF as desktop wallpaper, go back into your Display Properties and browse to the file you want to use on your hard drive. A couple of options may also appear in the list of available wallpaper images. Active Desktop wallpaper usually has a browser icon next to it. Select the image you want to use, and press Apply and OK.
