differant view of Lindisfarne.....on closer inspection, there appears to be damage from Cannon balls!! on the right side of the image there is a gap above a window . it looks like a cannon ball tore that hole above the window. therefore, im sure the priory was rebuilt after the viking raid in the 8th century. then wrecked again during Cromwells wars of the 17th century......after all, it was a catholic priory........... thats my theory.

those ruins are interesting. there seems to be a later Norman addition outside the original wall of the monastery. notice the lighter colored bricks used on the taller structure towards the left. its got that Norman look to it.

hehe! yes, the perfect longhouse!! .......................ps: my new BG is Lindisfarne Abbey!! the very first raid by Norwegians ,outside of Scandinavia, was at this place. the official birth of the Viking Age in the west. 762 AD. the abbey is on a small island close to the north east English coast.
