Hi folks,
on one of my latest vids I said I would like to release a tuition DVD. It´ll take some time to produce it, I´ll have to overcome some technical problems and then hopefully can start. I´ve got no idea how long it will take, but I try to do my best.
Because of my you tube activities I´ve been very busy lately: I was asked to give guitar lessons and asked to be some kind of musical director in a local show in May. So you see there are lots of things going on. I try to get my homepage fixed, too. Beside my job as a teacher and as a member of the Johnny Ketzel Band I don´t want to hurry things and don´t want to get into too much stress . . .

If you´re interested in some of the records that you´ll find on my website please write to me: siggimertens@web.de

Here are some answers to questions that might arouse:
Why does this weird old man put so many vids on you tube?
a)because his wife allows him to do so. Marita is the most wonderful woman in the world. She is a very active reader of literature and likes to watch good films. So while she´s doing that she´s not unhappy when I play the guitar. She also supports the music making in the family: we have three "children". Philipp is a gifted guitarist,I like to present him one day.He studies music and theology, made us believe in God again and is already married to Katha ( a great singer, too !) Some of you know Annika who is a versatile singer and then there´s Sean the most talented member of the family when it comes to music . Hava our foster-child is 8years old and perhaps we can get her into music, too.
b)Some years ago I was quite ill, what made me realise that from one day to the next life can end. Before it would happen I decided to record the songs I´ve learned in my life so my grandchildren can say: "He could at least do one thing really well".I started giving guitar lessons 30 years ago so be assured there are some more songs to be learned!
c) The success of my lessons on you tube is quite surprising, if it goes on like this there will be more than a million views by the end of this month, at Xmas the number was a tenth of that. My wife sometimes critizices the number of my vids and calls it "egomany" which might be a suitable description, but on the other hand who doesn´t like to hear via many comments that he´s a good man. Some of you might remember the song "Rock´n´Roll, I gave you the best years of my life" I´ve always played in bands that weren´t really successful so you can imagine that I like that positive tapping on my shoulder.
d)Until now I haven´t earned one penny by presenting my vids. It´s not really important to me because I work as a teacher, have a regular income and I´m very satisfied with my life at the moment. There were decades in which I suffered from panic attacks, still today me nerves are quite shaky before a gig!Look at my wrinkles and you know where they come from. When there is a possibility to earn some money by publishing a DVD or doing workshops I would be even more delighted. I hope I can transport the feeling that I don´t do it because of money ambitions. All in all I can say that I still like to get better and feel ambitious in that way. It was a great experience for me to change from electric to fingerstyle playing, thanks to Tommy Emmanuel the most gifted guitar player in the world.

Since 29th Feb my most viewed vids have been banned.

Thanks a lot for all your positive comments. As long as it is possible I will read them, but I can´t answer all of them because there are a lot. I hope you´ll understand.

God bless you. Siggi

No, sorry i dont, im still at a pretty novice level of guitar playing, so my knowledge of guitar technology is very limited. I tried just pausing and rewinding the video over and over, but without slow motion and with the relatively poor quality of youtube videos its hard to see exactly whats going on. I've only been playing for about 5 months now, so my ear really isnt good enough to hear whats going on either. It's cool though, maybe ill just try to improvise something myself, but use your video as a guideline. Thanks again.

Hello, over the past five or so months your lessons have proven very helpful in the evolution of my guitar playing, i thank you for that. I am really interested in your improvisational solo to white room, and was curious if you had any desire to either do a lesson on it or tab it for me? Thanks for all the great lessons. I look forward to what is to come.
