This course introduces the viewer to African-American history, with particular emphasis on the political thought and protest movements of the period after 1930, focusing on selected individuals who have shaped and been shaped by modern African-American struggles for freedom and justice. Clayborne Carson is a professor in the History Department at Stanford University.

In 2007, "Courting Disaster: The Fight for Oil, Water and a Healthy Planet" contemplated America's role in the world, the war in Iraq, and our struggle for resources. In 2006, journalist Ted Koppel moderated "Anxious Times: Seeing Beyond a World of Perpetual Threats," a provocative discussion on North Korea's nuclear ambitions, the looming threat of global terrorism, and the role of the Internet in our changing world.
