Ten Penny Players is an education program, performance group, and publisher of Waterways: Poetry in the Mainstream, STREAMS (volumes 1-16), In Search of a Song (a chapbook series), and poetry books by writers of all ages.

Barbara Fisher and Richard Spiegel were among the publishers and poets that both helped organize and exhibited at the annual New York Book Fair.

Richard for many years also was Small Press Poetry Coordinator for the Fair; and Barbara was fiscal director which meant writing the proposals as well as paying the bills.

In 1987 the "last" fair was held at Columbia University. Using a handheld camcorder Richard interviewed many of the exhibitors and also videotaped as many of the readings as he was able while also coordinating the reading schedules (there were simultaneous readings going on throughout Ferris Booth Hall).
