Just stopped by to say hello.
Any chance you might show some pictures or video of your electric car project before it's finished? |

Factoring in battery replacement plus electricity plus brakes, tires, and other crap, this car will cost much less to runany gasoline powered car you can think of. No oil changes, no tune ups, no pistons, no valves, no pulleys. That electric motor will outlast the chassis many times over without ever having a single repair.
I'm looking at about $.07/mile battery cost, $.015/mile electricity cost, and $.005/mile for tires, brakes, and other stuff. My car would break even with a 25 mpg gas powered car that needs $.03/mile in maintenance if gas were $1.50/gallon. Gas is currently $3/gallon. Most EV drivers have been saving thousands of dollars since the early 2000s, when gas got above $1.50/gallon. Some EVs using cheaper, less powerful batteries break even with their gas counterparts at $.50-.80/gallon, which adjusted for inflation, gas has never been that cheap! |

Actually, I will recycle the batteries when they are spent. I can get a pretty good amount of cash from the scrapyard, as the lead and other materials in them has value. Most EV owners make a small chunk of cash back from the scrapyard when it comes time to change the batteries.
Until I get a wind/photovoltaic system set up, Ameren UE will keep selling me electricity, mostly from coal. But even from coal, the pollution per mile will still be reduced from gasoline powered cars. I will eventually build my own garage mounted wind generator and purchase a solar array to charge the car with. Then I won't be paying anyone to 'fuel' it. My car will not be run on ethanol, or hydrogen. 100% electricity, no liquid fuels or hydrogen involved. |
