This is another song from the recent 303 warehouse show by Melbourne band, Aleks and the Ramps. A new song I believe, and I'm loving it already.
The audio quality is not as good as it is on Ex Riot Cop Dad, even though I'm actually standing where the sound guy was, and the level of the background chatting is higher in the mix, but I put this video up anyway because of the amorous closeups of the good looking band. And also because the Ramps look like they're having a lot of fun playing this song and it's making me love them even more. yay.

Ridiculous falsetto, ludicrous stage presence, absurd jumble of genres - just some of the words used to describe Melbourne outfit Aleks and the Ramps, which doesn't even begin to capture the exuberant dynamics of the band in their live form. But hopefully we come a little closer with this video. This is from their most recent Sydney show, at a newly opened warehouse venue 303 that promptly shut its doors the next day to live music in response to landlord complaints (unfortunately for sydney's gig goers this same building also housed the Last Bastion of Civilization and Black and Blue warehouse venues so 3 great spaces are now gone).
The Ramps gave a sterling performance, somewhat confounding part of the audience who did not know to expect moments of spazzed out rock and shambolic dance performances in between their jubilant brand of banjo pop. It climaxed with this final song in the set, Ex Riot Cop Dad, which is on the new record Pisces vs Aquarius.
For more Rampage, hop along to the Tape Relay (http://www.myspace.com/taperelay) page to hear songs from the live set recorded with me at the 2SER studios. Top stuff.

Sydney band Founder (Travis Baird, Joseph Leonard, Kurt Sorensen) return to the fold with an awesome new(ish) piece called 'vaster than empires (...and more slow)', performed at the Cad Factory. This performance also features Penny McBride (Hoo-Haas, Cannanes) on trumpet. The Founder boys are a rather talented and versatile lot who can often be found, when not rockin the house in this line up, throwing off sweet rock action with other Sydney bands like The Woods Themselves, El Mopa and Kid Cornered. If you often groove along to the tender ways of Tortoise, Fridge or Mogwai, then you'll groove along to Founder as well. http://www.myspace.com/foundertheband for more awesomeness.

Since closing up the Purplene shop, a couple of the fellas (the two Matts - Blackman and Rossetti) have opened up for business again as Charge Group, which also features an electric violin player who's been seen lately working with Josh Pyke, a bass player who is also found in The Instant, and one fine and rather versatile drummer Bree van Reyk otherwise ensconced with Darren Hanlon and Holly Throsby. So you could say they're pretty good musicians. This is a song recorded at the Hopetoun Hotel, Sydney in late May 2007. If you like bands such as Dirty Three or By Ferry or Steamer, you'd get a kick out of Charge Group.

Charge Group is the latest outing for a couple of ex- Purplene fellas (the two Matts - Blackman and Rossetti), an electrically charged electric violin player, a bass player who is also found in The Instant, and one fine and rather versatile drummer Bree van Reyk who is also in Holly Throsby's and Darren Hanlon's band. Yes, fine musicians all round. This is a song recorded at the Hopetoun Hotel, Sydney in late May 2007. If bands like Dirty Three or By Ferry or Steamer are your thing, you'd get a kick out of Charge Group.
