Sam laments the bittersweet passage of time as he endures another year gone by without getting anything acomplished.
Eschewing suburban Northglenn for Downtown Denver, Colorado and the Capitol hill neighborhood back in the tacky 1970s, Sam sings about the melocholy angst of anhedonia and emotional paralysis to any passersby who'll listen.
Sing along with Sam, won't you?
"Ohhhh, IIIII- Can't Believe I made it thru the yeaaaa--aaeeer!"
Boy, Denver sure has changed in the ensuing 31 years, eh? This was 5 years before the 16th street pedestrian mall was built and you can see plenty of shots of old busy 16th st. Also, this was 2 years prior to Klemke's foray into the world of retail Caricatures. Sam was a street caricaturist on the pearl st. Mall in Boulder, as well as the 16th st. mall, a great location for art & artists. For a time comparison, then and now, click on this video from 2007: http://youtube.com/watch?v=4i4abqxR64M

As Carl Sagan used to say, we are ALL stardust in this vast universe of Billions of stars...Everyone we know, including a couple of gentlemen loafers in Glenwood Springs as they carve out a meager existence in this cruel, misrable life, are Starstuff...
Lets look in on Chris Myers as he kvetches on the nature of Homo Sapiens; his bitterness shows in his cynical opinion of his fellow humans and the hard, cold truth of his sad lot in life.
Chris runs into his old friend, lifelong hobo, Hard-Luck Ray Dunaway, who has some thoughts on the catch 22 of getting ahead, and even finding a meager job.
"It's a wicked-ass game", Ray informs Chris as he describes the daily ordeal of being a homeless man in contemporary America.
Even a place like Haiti with its poverty and 'Yooricaines', seems pleasant compered to the difficulty of living in a Cave in a resort town in western Colorado.
Long gone, but not forgotten, Local legends in the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado, Chris Myers and Ray "Speedbump" Dunaway are still with us in memory.
Are you out there in the ether, Chris? Let us know... You are NOT a pathetic wimp...!

The heart of Las Vegas itself is surely the original, small, 4 block section known as Downtown. Home of the Golden Nugget, the Horseshoe and Del Webb's the Mint in it's heyday Though once shabby and decaying, the Las Vegas Strip took over as the epicenter of cool since the 1950', Downtown has bounced back with a makeover, a glitzy tourist pedestrian mall and and a thrilling technological phenomenon known as "The Freemont Street Experience"; a 4 block long video screen that spans the 'ceiling' of the street playing wild and stunning animations with loud music of all types.
But, Downtown hasn't been completely sanitized. It still get's the crazies...many of them spilling over from another era, walking the mall and ranting to themselves as they mingle with all the tourists and the novelty kiosks.
On this day, Joe Larmay, ("The Amazing Larmay") One of the most prominant and humorous of the west coast magicians, collides with one of the local, colorful, homeless gentelmen, a Mr. Donald G. Walker, (Waltor or Waffle?). A Viet Nam Veteran, Mr. Waffle has clearly lost his mind either due to his stint in Nam or his contamination with Agent Orange or his dabbling in mind altering substances...or maybe it's just chemical.
Watch the personalitys clash as these 2 egos collide on Freemont st. in 2001. A respectful vying for dominance ensues and a friendly and humorous truce seems inevitable.
Joe's wife Siria wisely observes the mayhem from a distance and concludes that THIS is truly "the Spirit of Vegas!"
You can still hear the manic laughter of Donald G. Walford as his memory haunts Freemont street Downtown Las Vegas to this very day!

Airbrush artist Big Tim Hosler regales us about the legend of Chupacabra, the infamous Goa
Airbrush artist Big Tim Hosler regales us about the legend of Chupacabra, the infamous Goat Sucker from Mexico. While technically still a myth, the spiny, hopping, blood sucking creature still leaves traces of itself all over the southwest, and was last seen having a Hatch Green Chili Quesadilla at the epic New Mexico State Fair off Central Avenue in Albuquerque. Big Tim has been drawing caricatures and painting t-shirts with his airbrush at fairs for decades.
Here is his website as a "For Hire Artist"-- http://ultimessence.com/bigtim.htm
One of the funniest dudes on the planet, he will have you in stitches as he rails against the corporate machine!
Give him a shout~

...at the "Blue Danube" coffee house in San Francisco April 10th, 2008. Songmeister Jeff Gutman was good enough to conjour up this little live show for me as my gal Kathlynne and I traveled thru town this spring. I was honored to see all my favorite tunes of his performed in his distinctive plummenting tenor vocals and his innovative guitar chord progressions played with passionate accoustic fury.
His soulmate and fellow singer/songwriter, the eloquent Dori Turner is on hand to give her energetic support as well.
Take a look at Jeff's website to see when and where in the Bay Area he'll be performing next. Also, his many CDs are available there too: http://jeffgutman.com/

Here it is at last; the final act of Drab Days in Suburbia, the morality duality starring Terrence McCoy as Morty Milkweed and the late Rob't C. Johnsen sr. as the immortal Lou Rhumba, the "Captain of Pleasure".
Here, Uncle Lou shows Morty once and for all that the meaning of existence is sheer hedonism and living for the moment. "Soon I may be talking to St. Peter, so, for now, it's miller time!"
At last Morty sees the light: "Don't squander the gold of your days, you fool-- LIVE! Be afraid of nothing! The world is yours for a season... 't'would be a shame to realize too late that the one truly thing worth having, is Youth!"
--Oscar Wilde; The Picture of Dorian Gray
Written, produced and directed by a gluttonous Sam Klemke in 1987

A conversation about money, one of Gil's favorite 2 topics...
This was the last burst of activity at the end of Gil's 20 year tenure in the U.S. before he escaped at the last minute back to his homeland of Israel. This footage was shot on Spring break in '99 in Ft. Myers beach Florida as he was hustling up some $$$ by drawing frat boys and gals on the street at night and on the beach by day.
After leaving his beloved Boulder, CO. Gil tried making a go of it in Florida, the state with the most caricaturists in the US. After his finances ground to a halt, he left for the city of Haifa on the Mediterranean sea where he still resides and draws, when not dodging scud missles and bombs from Lebanon.
Many still say he is (was)a character in a Monty Python skit, but if you ever met him, you'd be astonished how FAST one human could talk.
Come back, Gilad! All is forgiven. We need you in the NCN!
Shalom...

All the Crazies converge on the Boulder Mall in summertime... Flower people, Hippies, Artists, Lunatics, Free Spirits... It's a love festival and if you go, you're gonna meet some gentle people there, with flowers in their hair. Well, nostalgia aside, this was shot in '89, but it coulda been in '69 or '07... The Pearl Street Mall is truly timeless.
Oh, wow... peace, love and Colorado!

More of Lou Rhumba, (The "Captain of Pleasure") and Morty J. Milkweed as they discuss the bittersweet moribundity of life and living each day to the fullest. This Existential Fairy Tale was produced by Sam Klemke in 1987 in Denver, Colorado on a microscopic budget for public access TV.
Starring the late Robert C. Johnsen Sr. as Lou Rhumba, and Terry McCoy as Morty, this duelogue is a result of Klemke splitting his already fractioned personality in 2 parts and having a conversation with himself-- Gluttony vs. restraint, hedonism vs. fear, and bombastic egotism vs. shyness and self-loathing...
Part 2 shows the Captain tying to explain his credo of unfettered playfulness to a sad Morty, who is forced to confront his destiny and the cruel brevity of life.
