Unprofessional, an alternative-rock-band from Rüsselsheim (near Frankfurt, Germany), active since April 2003. Their sound is inspired by bands like Queens of the stoneage, Incubus, Muse or Audioslave.
About one month after the beginning of George W. Bush's search for weapons of mass destruction the brothers Daniel and Oliver Kirsch decided to do the same, borrowed a drum set, wrote - as they had no other present - a song for their grandfather's birthday the next day and started searching for "their sound". The sound of the first recordings made it easy to find a name for the new project - "Unprofessional", a combination of "nonprofessional" and the German term "unprofessionell", a perfect word to describe the musical abilities in the band's beginning.
In the last quarter of 2003 Daniel's friend Tobias Michl joined the band, starting off as the guitarist. The motivation grew to do regulary, intensive rehearsals, but there was still a problem with the band's adjustment, due to the limited musical endowment and the missing of the essential fourth member to complete the manning. Daniel hit the drums (in between he had bought his own drums), Oli sang and conducted Tobi's lead-guitar playing. Finally the band found a preliminary bassist with Falko Brand. In this 4-man-constellation a lot of loud rehearsals were the preparation for Unprofessional's first gig at "Das Rind" located in their hometown Rüsselsheim.
Though the first concert was successful, the band had discrepancies related to lazyness and the demand on musical quality that caused the dismissal of bassist Falko. After some time playing as a 3-man-band with Oli taking the bass instead of the rhythm guitar, the band changed their manning again to find some kind of optimum. In september 2005 Tobias Michl took the bass, Daniel stayed behind the drums, Oli played the rhythm-guitar again and sang and the new man, Alex Kowallik, who already worked with Daniel in another project, joined the band to play the lead-guitar.
In this manning the Unprofessional-typical sound was created, inspired by alternative-rock-sounds by bands like Queens of the stone age, Incubus, Muse or Audioslave, but also by classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin the band has created a repertoire affected with a versatility of influences one the one, but also uniqueness on the other hand.
After they worked over their old songs they participated in the international newcomer-contest Emergenza and even reached the second round, playing in the "Batschkapp", a club in Frankfurt, in May 2006 they experienced a whole new level of live-playing, performing not only near their hometown but also infront of a bigger audience.
With songs like "Anonymous" Unprofessional broaches their issue of political incidents and motivates to think. So they transport social-critical as well as personal topics in their songs and let silent, melodical tones and also rocking loud passages incorporate into their songs.
Though, after a band-history of more than three years the band has hit their peak until now, Unprofessional is in a continous process of development and compositional expansion that raises expectations for the band's future.
In March 2007 Tobi declared his exit from the band. Unprofessional is now looking for a new bassist.
