DO
My name is Robert L. Pepper. I am a Brooklyn based artist. The whole point of being an artist can be summed up into one two-letter word, "DO." It doesn't matter how successful you are, how many people know, it is based on life experience of creating in some form or another.
Starting about 1995 I picked up a Tascam 4 track , a Yamaha CS-1, an Boss Dr. Sampler, and a Boss digital delay pedal and decided to make sound recordings that I can get my body and soul lost in. Laying down every track is a great stress relief, a mental soother, a chance to go out of this world and enjoy outerworldly channels. Making sound collages makes me feel content with life. I have in that time recorded about 6 full length CD's. I also am part of a band named Magic Zorillo, which is very different than PAS. At first, PAS was a solo project but over the years has developed into a collective. Video has also been introduced to make experimental filmwork with sound collage soundtracks which can be found here or on myspace.
The term (posT-abortioN-stresS...froM thE viewpoinT oF thE fetuS) is a metaphor. It defines all of those people have been aborted from society from one place or another. Some people have different views of how the world works apart from mainstream cultures and more people should realize there is more than one way to accomplish anything.
Using this term personally for me means how I apply it to music. Music can be any sound that can be heard by the human ear. It doesn't have to sound like "rock" or "pop". It doesn't have to have musical instruments and if it does you do not have to play them in a traditional way.
The first time I actually heard the term was from a religious pamplet on the New York subway system. My friend Dan Porter and I joked on how that would be a great band name and so it's been with me ever since.
I am also a painter. I have had a handful of exhibitions with many great people. I have posted some drawings and paintings here. Please take a look, enjoy, and make a comment.
PAS is a collaborative effort and is expanding. If you would like to collaborate through music or video please contact me at xxmelmothx@aol.com.
PAS collaborators these days are:
Robert L. Pepper
Jon "Vomit" Worthley
Amber Brien
Naga
Leonardo Casas
Will See Sar
The recent plan is to compile a DVD collection of short experimental audio/visual films and find places to screen the compilation. The final cuts will be a collaborative effort of several musicians and filmmakers.
We are also looking to perform live gigs of our music.
Thanks and please enjoy my recordings. Feedback is always great to hear and can help me in new directions. Thanks Robert
