We achieve everything by our efforts alone. Our fate is not decided by an almighty God. We decide our own fate by our actions. You have to gain mastery over yourself. It is not a matter of sitting back and accepting. (Daw Aung San Suu Kyi)

Even though he is looking to avoid trouble, trouble has a way of finding him. A group of Christian human rights missionaries, led by Michael Burnett and Sarah Miller, approach Rambo with the desire to rent his boat to travel up the river to Burma. For over fifty years, Burma has been like a war zone. The Karen people of the region, who consist of peasants and farmers, have endured brutally oppressive rule from the murderous Burmese military and have been struggling for survival every single day. This is the time when medical assistance and general support from the Christian missionaries is needed most. After some consideration, and due to insistence from his mentor, former military man Ed Baumgartner, Rambo accepts the offer and takes Michael, Sarah, and the rest of the missionaries up the river. When the missionaries finally arrive at the Karen village, they are ambushed by the sadistic Major Pa Tee Tint and a slew of Burmese army men. A portion of the villagers and missionaries are tortured and viciously murdered, while Tint and his men hold the remainder captive. News soon reaches the minister in charge of the mission and with the help of Ed Baumgartner he employs Rambo to lead a rescue effort. With five young and highly diverse mercenaries at his disposal, Rambo has to travel back up the river and liberate the survivors from the clutches of Major Tint in what may be one of his deadliest missions ever. Books: Freedom from Fear by Aung San Suu Kyi: Nobel Peace Prize winner for 1991, Aung San Suu Kyi is currently under house arrest in Myanmar (Burma) and serves as the nation's conscience against an oppressive military regime. Compiled by her husband, Michael Aris, with a foreword by Vaclav Havel, this volume includes a wide selection of Aung San's writings--essays, letters, speeches, and interviews--as well as four tributary articles. However, more stress should have been given to her writings since 1988 when she entered political life. Her best essay, My Father, is a biographical portrait of the father of modern Burma. (This has been separately published as Aung San of Burma by Kiscadale Publications and will be distributed in the United States by Seven Hills in February 1992.) Although her writings are repetitive and often more about her father than herself, people will want to read about the plight of a heroic figure trapped by a corrupt Third World regime. -Donald Clay Johnson (Univ. of Minnesota Lib., Minneapolis, united States) * Letters from Burma by Aung San Suu Kyi: This is a collection of 52 essays that Aung San Suu Kyi had written in the mid 1990's for a Japanese newspaper. She discusses a full range of topics including politics, religion, and the daily life of the Burmese people as seen through the eyes of the country's biggest proponent of democracy. Her tales are fascinating and well written. They offer a glimpse into the world of an almost Orwellian regime and can peak the interest of readers unfamiliar with Burma's current state of unrest. As a recent traveller to Burma, I was looking for more detail into Burma's history and details surrounding the nullified election in 1990. Though these issues are touched upon, each essay is a mere 2.5 page newspaper article which does not lend itself to such depth. It is however a fascinating read and a great introduction to Burma's struggle for democracy. -A. Klein (San Francisco, CA, United States) *

I don't look at this as a sacrifice. It's a choice. If you choose to do something then you shouldn't say it's a sacrifice. Because nobody forced you to do it. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi (Secretary General, NLD)

"Fearlessness may be a gift but perhaps more precious is the courage acquired through endeavour, courage that comes from cultivating the habit of refusing to let fear dictate one's actions, courage that could be described as 'grace under pressure' - grace which is renewed repeatedly in the face of harsh, unremitting pressure." (Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, 07.10.1990)

World, something has to be done! We have to fight against injustice in Myanmar if we don`t, we are breaking our values of freedom and sentencing people of Myanmar to live in hell. So get together and fight against dictatorship, please! You will not regret, because it makes us human to help each other, and with that we are building a new world without injustice, humble and hate. We need to understand and respect each other! Without hate!
Burmese keep on fighting!

Fair enough. What's been going on in Burma since the crackdown on protesters? Are you actually in Burma, or simply an ethnic Burmese?
jhyfyuk (7 months ago)
Out of curiosity, do most Burmese not use the name 'Myanmar?'

Please, help promoting the video "776 B.C. - The Games Begin 2008 A.D. - Game Over".

It's very short, it's very effective. Watching & hearing it, means feeling the urge to act. And, most people must fell this urge, 'cause it's the only way to put pressure on institutions. Else, they won't do anything.

Thanks
