The SmartThings systems has the most robust set of automations, or also known as routines and has devices connecting to their Hub. The hub is than connect to your network via a cable or WiFi. Cabling would be the preferred method.

Apple Home (formerly known as Apple HomeKit) connects mainly via Bluetooth or WiFi. Apple Home has recently updated to allow devices with the approved code and technology to connect via Thread.
